@CELLFISH: With a telescope and dark skies tonight, we can all see The Moon kissing Uranus!! ? ?? Sorry, couldn't resist, watching too much Holey Moley lately...

I don't have a clear low East view from the house because of trees. If I did, I might have dragged out the 8" scope to witness this epic celestial event.

who’s pic, ?, it’s green WoW...

Not mine, but a picture taken using the same sized and type of telescope that I have. Color is a bit false, it should be more on the blue side, but atmospheric aberrations do occur. I have "seen" Uranus, the planet, and it's just a tiny blue spec that I checked off my "I saw that" list on my log.

The "best" planets are Mars where I've seen the polar ice caps, Saturn where I actually got to see the Cassini division in the ring structure and Jupiter 30 years ago, when the Great Red Spot was really a Great Red Spot. It's significantly smaller and less red right now.

Moon Phase Today: September 29, 2020
The Moon's current phase for today and tonight is a Waxing Gibbous phase. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts round 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon will rise in the east in mid-afternoon and will be high in the eastern sky at sunset. The moon is then visible though most of the night sky setting a few hour before sunrise. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has its roots in the Latin word "gibbosus" meaning humpbacked.

Today's Waxing Gibbous Phase
The Waxing Gibbous on September 29 has an illumination of 95%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On September 29 the Moon is 12.60 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle of all 8 Moon phases.

The 8 Lunar Phases
There are 8 lunar phases the Moon goes through in its 29.53 days lunar cycle. The 4 major Moon phases are Full Moon, New Moon, First Quarter and Last Quarter. Between these major phases, there are 4 minor ones: the Waxing Crescent, Waxing Gibbous, Waning Gibbous and Waning Crescent.
