Firepit & remainder of the 1985 Grahams vintage port from Christmas...

That’s a very nice bottle of Port.

Friend drinks that stuff, he loves it.

I know its good because I pay for it.
I bought a case of that in the late 80s, and paid probably 1/5 of what it'd cost now. Always loved Grahams, on "normal" days I enjoy their 6 Grape Reserve which is really decent and I can get a case of that for about 2 bottles of the 85.

The valiant, but sadly, dead soldier.

Wow... a great purchase.
I remember how they (friends and business associates ) would discuss case purchases and i thought they were nuts, the only cases i was interested in was the Holiday shipments of seasonal brews but would get involved since it was good for relations and gifts for the Holidays.

I remember splitting and or chipping in on 1/4 cases per man on items that were certain years and brands like 1996 being very desirable and 2003 & 05 while they passed on other years in and around those. As for brands I remember Old Vine, Staggs, Shaffer and Silver Oak all reds.

I knew the difference, sampling them often at dinners and lunches.
The stuff was like drinking velvet and supplied a smooth solid buzz.

Might have to try some again.

Ah case purchases and wine futures, those were games I played back in IL when I didn't have a boat to pour my discretionary income into. Yes, I still have some wonderful wines stashed away in the cellar, but now I find myself saying to myself, "Crap Dom, you got to start drinking this stuff, it's getting past its prime!!!" Problem is the Admiral has developed a sensitivity to the grand reds we have and I can't bring myself to opening a Robert Parker-rated 97 bottle of Bordeaux to drink alone with my grilled burger.

I'm not making any future purchases because if I stop and think about it logically, my mortality sets in.
"Hey Idiot!! Sure go and buy a case of this year's Cos D'Estournel for your kids to drink after you're dead because you got to wait 20 years to drink it! And why bother? You've probably got enough of the good stuff to cover Christmas and Easter dinners for the bulk of your personal 'Expiration Date'!!!"

Now that I'm rationally thinking about it, having a prime Bordeaux with meatloaf isn't such a bad gig after all. It's a dirty job and someone has to do it. Tonight I'll crack open a bottle of Gruard Larose...

Watching Andy Griffith Show..
I find it very strange how Barney was so infatuated with Andy and Ms. Crump ( Hellen ) being Married.
Weird.

So glad this is the only thing bothering me.

I should start smoking weed again, might help me understand more sitcom humor.
