Sounds like a good decision; my personal experience with repairs is not good.Freezer clean out and grilling but not on purpose
Monday morning, the day before Im planning on coming home from our trip to Nova Scotia and ME my son calls and says Dad, something ls wrong with the stand up freezer in basement. Full of ice/frost, lights on but compressor not running and looks like things are melting
Tell him to focus on vacuum packed fish and
Important things that are still solid. Thanks to my neighbor and buddy who came and helped direct him on what was OK and what had to go in fridge
Tonight was a bunch of chicken and sausage
Researched freezer and suggestion was unplug and let it fully defrost 24-48 hours as it could be blocked vents etc and compressor not getting enuf air to breathe
Did that and so far so good. Lots of melted ice and puddles to clean up
Froze a big container of water
Give it another day or 2 before I trust it to refill
Checked prices and can get get a new one same size $600
I figure repair gonna be a minimum $125 initial call to diagnose, order a part and return to install another $250 makes it not worth repairing
