Was coming back from Norfolk after a successful shopping expedition to Costco & was headed across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (CBBT). Now they've working on the bridge for the last year or so. They;re adding two new tunnels alongside the two existing ones. One tunnel for each direction.

Now the one on the Virginia Beach side of the Bay has 3 or 4 huge construction cranes on it. Each adorned with several American flags. Always wonder why so many.

It's not unusual to see flags on construction cranes but these have several on each crane.

Got my answer this afternoon. Forgot the Navy uses the VB tunnel to transit from their base in Norfolk to the Atlantic & vis a versa.

So today I notice a Submarine, followed by what I presumed to be a Destroyer (now I don't the difference between a Destroyer, a Cruiser or a Frigate other then size - this one had a gun on it's bow - so I'm going with Destroyer) transiting over the tunnel headed toward the Atlantic (deploying somewhere - seems a shitstorm seems to be taking place this morning in Iraq)?

What got my attention (other then the ships of course) were the 20 to 25 Construction workers standing in line - at attention & saluting the two vessels as they passed. They must do this every time the USN passes by. I thought that was pretty neat.
(y)

Then it hit me.

Here we are all getting ready for our trivial New Year's Eve celebrations & here are these men & women (& others like them) placing themselves between us & those that would harm us regardless of the season so we can enjoy those trivial celebrations.

God Bless Them & keep them safe..................
