just released a raccoon from the trap I set yesterday for cats..............

I've had a bit of an uptick in the stray cat population in the last month or two so I've started setting traps again. Forgot about this one until 10 minutes or so ago. Went to check & there's a dang big coon in it. Needless to say - he/she was quite pissed off.

Made me nervous releasing him. Didn't know if he was going to turn & attack his captor or just flee.
He fled.

Thank Goodness.......

part of my chores today ahead of the stone delivery & installation was to create an opening to under the house so that my termite guy can get in there to do his annual inspection...

So I knocked out a chunk of pre-1900's cinder block for lack of a better word (wasn't actually cinder block as I don't believe they had cinder block in the good ol' days) & then took a look under the house. Man it's scary under there. I don't know how the guy gets under. There's maybe 8 to 10 inches clearance between the dirt & the floor joists.

There are spider webs under there like those you see in those 1930's hunted house horror movies (Abbott & Costello's Hold that Ghost comes to mind).

Bunch of other unidentifiable stuff that the flashlight couldn't quite illuminate enough for to tell w hat it was.
Saw something in the distance that might have been bone. Or pottery, or....................

Termite guy has pulled some interesting stuff out from under there.

House is estimated to have been built in the second half of the 1800's - back half early 1900's. I was a juncture where the two meet.

So that's what I'm doing................
:)

and maybe watching Hold That Ghost tonight after dinner - have it on DVD along with all their other movies............

Stopped by Sea Hawk B&T this afternoon ........... going thru my new tackle. Popping corks and peeler crabs for bait. I was told the Speck fishing is good right now and "Rock" (stripers) opens tomorrow. One a day at 20" up to 36". It's been a long time since I fileted a delicious 20" Bass !

Well as long as you're down there you might as well reap the benefits of inane fishery management. Miss the days of the Maine 20-26" slot, that was prime eating size...

It's not as good as it sounds ..... the season is split. The first part is only 5/16 -6/16. One month. So while the guys in the northeast are whacking fish all summer, it is closed down here until 10/4. Then when it re-opens it only runs till 12/31. Despite the lower size limit, I would guess the northeast is killing way more fish as a result of the length of the season. Again, just a guess.

Bass are spawning in the Chesapeake at that time (or so I've been told) - reason for the split seasons. They also leave the Bay shortly after June anyway as the water temps get too hot.

but you get to keep your boat in the water until the the end of rock season (and beyond if you so desire)..

Yes, I forgot that VA's regs are different from MD. MD let's 'em catch small ones all summer, IIRC. That's the insane part...
