bewtween here and Richmond, its not practical to drive 80mph, but the left lane will always have someone right up ya tail... cellfish...

Believe it or not, the highways around Chicago are far worse. If you're not doing 70 in 50 MPH construction zone you'll be rolled over. Speed Limits there are looked at as recommendations, not laws, the US's version of the Autobahn or Autostrada...

if i recall, some stretches in da Carolinas, Georgia and Florida has 70mph and maybe even 75mph limits too... C22...

Oh, there are stretches in IL, IA, WI, IN, etc. of 70s, but that means you'll be driving too slow if you're not doing at least 80. In my "old age" I've given up on the radar detector and just do 7 mph over the speed limit in the very unlikely case I actually run past a State Trooper clocking folks...

I just HATE I-80 at the IN/IL border. It's a constant construction zone, with 50 MPH construction speed limits, but folks in the left lane are routinely doing 80 including semis. I'll be doing 70 and wondering how long anyone would last if they actually drove the speed limit. On our way out to visit the kids in IA, it's a 45 min, white-knuckle extravaganza...

I'm not sure what all the drama is about. I've made the trip numerous times in the last 5 years. I don't drive over 65 regardless of what the speed limit is. I'm comfortable at that speed.

I set the cruise control for 5 MPH over whatever the posted speed limit is & just cruise. Mostly in the right two lanes.

Never had a problem.
