We Lost a Shining Star this Weekend

Well-Known Angler
It is with a very heavy heart that I must report that Steve Sponza of Wego Bait and Tackle passed away this weekend.

I had known Steve for over 30 years, and not only did he supply me with some of the freshest bait and cutting-edge tackle, he was always a fountain of solid Information. Needless to say, he was one of the nicest guys you would ever want to be with. In fact, I just saw him this past Thursday morning as I was picking up my ice and bait for the day's charter.

I am quite confident that all who knew him, even casually, will agree he was a real gem. For those who wish to pay their respects there will be viewing hours this coming Tuesday 9/26 at the Defriest/Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.

My deepest condolences to his family and all the many folks who knew him.
RIP, Steve.

I moved here in 2019 & was a tin boat guy in the sound, their is a chance I might have figured it out eventually, but Steve had a way of pointing me in the right direction & like any good fisherman, not telling me everything. He smiled at my success, always treated me fair. Three other shops closer to where I live, but WeGo was, & I hope, will continue to be my go to shop, glad I wandered in.
