From the national weather service:

" ..... due to the confluence of the current jet steam's long term outlook, combined with the strengthening "el nino" phenomena, the long term snowfall outlook for the northeast is trending toward being one of the lightest in many years. This is especially true for coastal areas along the Northeast, especially the Long Island region. Long Island, with its geography jutting out into the warmer waters of the Atlantic, will have most snow events this season turning over to rain at the onset. As a result of these influences, major snow events will continue to impact the mid section of the country. Due to the west to east movements of these upcoming storms, areas of North Carolina and Virginia will likely see record snowfall events this season. This will be especially be true for the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the Eastern shore of Virginia where, due to the straight easterly movement of these systems, the warming influence of the Atlantic will not come into play. "

except for this part:

other then one storm that gave us about 5 inches - we didn't get squat

Maybe. But sitting here on the island it couldn't have gone any better. I never fired up a snowblower even once. So not only didn't lose days clearing snow, but I don't have to "summerize" them for the off season.

I'll remember this winter just like the one where we got a foot of snow every week. But for much better reasons.
