Taxpayer money it it's finest!

Based on the 2025 Illinois Report Card, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) saw 40.6% proficiency in English language arts and 26.2% in Math for 2025. These figures were generated using new, "right-sized" proficiency benchmarks, making direct comparisons to previous years difficult, though the updated standards indicate an improvement in student proficiency.

Key 2025 Chicago Test Metrics:
  • ELA Proficiency (3rd-8th Grade): Roughly 43% of CPS students read at grade level.
  • Math Proficiency (3rd-8th Grade): Approximately 27% of CPS students are proficient in math.
  • High School (11th Grade): 40% were proficient in reading and 25% in math on the ACT.
  • Contextual Shift: The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) lowered the cut scores for proficiency, meaning 2025 acts as a new baseline.
  • Growth: While proficiency rates are not directly comparable to 2024, student growth percentiles (SGP) showed steady progress, particularly in ELA.
  • Attendance: Chronic absenteeism remains high across Chicago Public Schools.
