Well he blasted them today, stopping a Sea Grant project on lobster science and here’s one for the books…

His 25% tariff on Canada will cream the Maine Lobster industry. Why you may ask? Maine has very limited lobster processing facilities, but Canada has many more state of the art facilities.

So starting Tuesday when those tariffs kick in, when Maine seafood businesses try to bring back the lobster products from the lobsters they shipped to Canada, they will be paying 25% MORE!!

I’m sure they won’t be thanking Donald for that!!!

For starters, what's to process? A pair of rubber bands and they go in a box. Ship them to restaurants and seafood stores.

But maybe the Maine lobster business needs to step up their game and bring the business home. Those Canuck made lobsters will cost 25% more too. Sounds like an opportunity.

Absolutely, in Canada they have automated meat picking equipment in line with the cookers. Maine picks lobster and crab meat the old fashioned way, by hand. Picked lobster is a major product for New England & Atlantic Canada.

Canada doesn’t export lobster to the US, Asia is their export market, as Maine does too. Those markets are live bugs. Only hard shells get shipped any distances.

Besides supplying the ME restaurant business, the ME soft shells get processed for picked meat.
