HUD orders citizenship verification after audit reveals ineligible tenants in taxpayer-funded housing

The Trump administration ordered public housing authorities to verify tenant citizenship within 30 days or face federal sanctions after HUD audit findings.

HUD said the audit identified nearly 200,000 tenants requiring eligibility verification, including nearly 25,000 deceased tenants and nearly 6,000 ineligible non-American tenants across federally funded housing programs.

"We will leave no stone unturned," HUD Secretary Scott Turner said in a statement. "We are proud to collaborate with DHS to execute on the president’s agenda of rooting out abuse of taxpayer-funded resources. Ineligible non-citizens have no place to receive welfare benefits. With this new directive and audit, HUD is putting new processes in place to safeguard taxpayer resources and put the American people first."

California pays the Federal Government much more than they ever get back. What you should be saying is keep throwing taxpayer money at the Federal government.

What does that have to do with a guy in California accused of fraud? Nothing to do with the federal government.

"California was pushing this money out quickly. A lot of money went out the door, with, frankly, very little vetting, very little checks and balances. And, he's one of the individuals that got it in this organization," he added.

It has to do with your comment concerning throwing taxpayer money at California. On balance, you don’t pay a dime in taxpayer money to California. The opposite is true. You personally get more benefit from the money California contributes to the Federal Government. Since California contributes far more to the Federal Government that they get back thos helps to keep your taxes lower.

As to your follow up about….. “very little vetting, very little check and balances, etc., “…….. well, that no more than copy-paste spam of Foxnews which has an agenda of trying to smear anything Blue. I am quite confident you have no idea of the vetting and protocols involved.

You quite CONFIDENTLY claimed that money went out the door with very little vetting, very little checks and balances, etc.

Please explain the vetting process as you describe it, as well as the procedures, protocols, and other safeguards put in place to try and avoid criminality, and abuse of the system.

I won’t hold my breath.

Obviously there were none based on the figures noted. You can have safeguards in place, but need to be followed.
