Personally, I could care less about any sort of GMO products. My motto has always been along the lines of DuPont's "Better living through chemistry" mantra...

Strictly speaking, the oysters are not genetically modified in that they have 3 sets of normal oyster chromosomes. In a genetically modified product, scientists add a gene from another organism, delete a gene, or modify a gene.

For example, the "Frakenfish" Salmon, that's been trying to take off is an Atlantic Salmon with 2 fish genes inserted, one from the Chinook Salmon, the other from the Ocean Pout, you know the Conger Eel!! These 2 genes allow the salmon to pump out more growth hormone so they grow faster. In an aquaculture setting, this would mean they get to market faster.

still getting clams for 30 cents a piece or so (50 count bag for $18) - probably because they are locally harvested either out of the Chesapeake or Oceanside - no trucking costs involved

Back in the early 80’s when I was clamming full time we always made lots more money per clam for memorial day the 4th and labor day
