I don't put them in the fridge but I make sure the water does not get heated. In the garage or shade will usually keep them cool. If it's too hot, I soak them for however long I can and then just deal with it. Most of the time it's not that hot that you can't soak them for a few hours or overnight. When I'm done soaking, I put them in the fridge without water but cover them with a damp towel. They are usually good to go for a week in the fridge. When they reach their limit, I shuck them and freeze for chowder or clam sauce.yea that's what i have heard. do you put in fridge or leave the bucket in say the garage or something?
With the GSB coming back as fast as it is, fresh clams are going to be on my menu. I really like eating them and catching them. I now have spots for hard clams, razor clams and steamers. All within ten minutes of my house.
I have a really cool rake that I use while in the water. The teeth are knife blades. It's very easy to pull through the bottom. Like most rakes, it cannot be a grass bottom. The rake takes a little time to learn. While you can just pull it and catch. The real trick is lightly pulling and pushing. Most of the time you find the clams on the push. Then you hop the rake over them and scoop them out. I use an aluminum handle to telegraph the blade touching the shell.
