wives & fishing

Went through one divorce, may get married again, yes, I know, hit me over the head with a 2x4, but......if I want to try and make it work this time.....how do you guys hide all the fishing stuff you buy from your wives, and how do you finance it all without them knowing?

I don't hide it. I don't buy a lot of rods and reels. I bought one set up in the last three years. She understands that I need to buy tackle and that's where I spend the most.
Now she does raise an eyebrow when she sees the charter fees.

my wife fishes....not a problem...EVER!! I just sold 3 avets and she wasn't happy...seriously!!

but hiding stuff you buy and how you financed it is not good.. you can't get away with it......tell them about your addiction and as long as it isn't the mortgage money...they will understand...if not your screwed:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Well guys, I gotta say, your'e good, who needs "Dear Abby" when you can get advice like this, thank you all.

Some of the advice has got my wheels spinning, so if you don't mind, I have some follow-up questions, here's one.

This concept of actually taking the wife fishing, seems very foriegn to me, although I must admitt, I have thought about taking the X fishing, shark fishing, you know, it is dangerous, accidents do happen....but taking your sweety fishing...hmmmmmm. I have been thinking about this and although I am dumb, I am not stupid, so I'm trying to figure out all the angles to this in advance. Other then making sure your GF didn't leave any bra or pantys in the cabin, what other preparations would you recommend prior to doing this, and what can I expect the day to be like?

Thanks in advance,
MakoMatt

makomatt lets spin it around, what if you wife hides what she buys for fishing,, JBayRoyal does just that and the funny part shes thinks shes getting away with it lol,,, but mojoe always knows ;) :),,,,,,,,,><)))):>
><))):>

Before we were married Josie would go fishing with me. We went for flounder, blues, the kind of fish that almost hook themselves. After the kids came along she lost interest in fishing. She makes the occasional trip now, but she's not into it.
Start her off with a species that's easy to catch and are being caught well. Expect to spend the day being a personal mate. Rigging, baiting, taking fish off will be a full time job.

Matt...there is surely more prep when fishing with the wife....Generally I'll take her inshore fluke//porgy//blacks....from May to December. We usually also stay overnight....The boat and the crowd also come into play.....one of the most female friendly party boats on the island is the OSPREY.....being captained by a terrific woman has a lot to do with that....she has no qualms about fishing for anything.....I took her to Alaska and she fished 5 days in deep water drops pulling in Halibuts to 150 lbs

I don't hide anything, she knows that I won't spend anything on fishing we can't afford, & I know she won't spend anything on herself that we can't handle. Been working for 49yrs. I had been fishing one 16' tin boat after another for the last 30yrs or so, & had been on the fence for a while about buying a 21' Steiger, 2 years ago she encouraged me to finally pull the trigger & do it.

I am not so sure that speaking of marriage and hiding purchases from one's better half rightly belong in the same sentence let alone paragraph. Why get married if one can't trust the other to make sound or needed purchases? After 38 plus years my wife still goes out with me about half the time I use the boat. (Which admittedly isn't much.) Does she deer hunt or surf cast with me ? Hell no ! (But she gobbled down more venison than I did last night, lol.) After a great time kayaking off Kailua Beach when I retired in 2011, we finally bought our own tandem. Don't paddle it much, but it's there and the reason I am selling my Phoenix 140 sans paddle. Would I like to get another lever action in a pistol caliber ? Sure, but when she suggested buying a new and lighter kayak she didn't have to say it twice. Marriage is a compromise. One doesn't absolutely have to have that Van Stahl or Curado ya know.

Theresa started out just as you described but now she is practically a seasoned fishing nut....
