wives & fishing

From the first time I took my wife out with me on my boat i had at the time before we got married she's been hooked!! She actually gets mad when I go out myself and she has to stay home.
Anybody that's married to somebody that gives them a hard time for doing what they need to do to relax and escape the stress of everyday life is married to the WRONG person.

chinacat thats so right,,,,,,the only thing as most know JBayRoyal always out fishes me .....><)))):>

Hey Matt glad to hear your taking the plunge. I echo most of what’s been said here - except for my friend Old Muds post :)

In my case my wife likes to fish, but only in 80 degree plus weather and in calm seas. She has always supported my habit of buying the things i
“Gotta have” and she’s never discouraged me from fishing.

I simply couldn’t ask for more!

Matt...there is surely more prep when fishing with the wife....Generally I'll take her inshore fluke//porgy//blacks....from May to December. We usually also stay overnight....The boat and the crowd also come into play.....one of the most female friendly party boats on the island is the OSPREY.....being captained by a terrific woman has a lot to do with that....she has no qualms about fishing for anything.....I took her to Alaska and she fished 5 days in deep water drops pulling in Halibuts to 150 lbs
My wife refuses to do the Alaska trip. Too long away from shopping I guess ?

I had a 24 year "Career Sabbatical" in the Midwest, and my disinterest in fishing on the "sweet" side meant very low fishing related expenditures. Now if I want it, I buy it and when I get the occasional "funny look" I just remind the Minister of Sociality and Finance of that and all is good. She also realizes that I'm never extravagant, would never fork out the $$ for Gold Tinted reels, when the Maroon versions work fine, and if I do go for expensive gear, I wait for a sale, and take out a stack of $10 Bean Bucks chits that let me buy a $200 reel for $15 out of pocket last fall. Sometimes she even tells me to buy something, especially when I take her fishing and I start with a "I wish I had..." Which is usually met with a, "Go buy it!", Happy Birthday, Father's Day, Christmas, Anniversary or whatever the nearest holiday is.

Well guys, right or wrong, we did a little shopping last night, 3 1/2 hours of it. Here's where we stand so far, after trying on every foul weather suit in the store, "we" finaly settled on Grunden's in Orange with brown boots, something about White boots and being after Labor Day didn't fly, and matching cap with cute little gloves with no fingers? Also picked up a couple nice folding "fishing chairs" with built in drink holders, a pair of boating shoes to wear to and from the boat, and a jacket too. One Port-a-potty later with "special" disinfecting solution and some "marine" toilet tissue, and we were out the door. We were also looking at ordering a custom pole from Sea Isle but "we" didn't like the color choices they had for wraps, they didn't go well with the outfit, so we need to shop around on that one, but she did like the gold reels, goes well with some of her jewerly. Then it was off to the supermarket where we picked up some very nice heavy duty paper plates with cute little flower border, matching regular napkins, cocktail napkins, plastic spoons, forks, knives, plastic cups, straws, wet naps, paper towels, and about 6 assorted Tupperware containers.

Just a couple of things left to get we couldn't find, maybe you guys could help me here, where can I find...

1. 12 V Makeup mirror?
2. Does Grundens make matching accessories?
3. Nice picnic basket to put food stuff in?

Also, anything else you guys could think of that I might be missing would be appreciated too.

Should have gone with Rag Sailor foul weather gear like Gill or Helly's. They have better color combinations, including footwear, and probably have accessories too.

Remember when we all wore Helly-Hansen?? Yeah that was a long time ago. Mine finally "died" and I'm using all my old sailing gear which I like better than Grundens.

Run now Matt run

I will admit that the one thing I did keep from my wife is that the boat came with a port-a-potty. Never took it out, or even opened of the box, & it's in a corner of the garage. If a pail is good enough for me, it's good enough for her. That's fishing.

Mine actually prefers the 5 gallon bucket with the cute "potty-like" bucket lid to the Port-a-Potty because it's higher. P-a-P now sitting in the basement...

You can find a six gallon bucket. I have one and use it with a lid/seat. It's higher than a five gallon and just the right height for fishing on a six pack.
