So the other day I was fluking in an area that had plenty of sharks around. A few boats even hooked up on them. It shouldn't come as a surprise, as this is two or more years consecutive years of it.

It was blisteringly hot and it's tempting to take a dip in the ocean to cool off. This is exactly what one guy did just a few hundred yards from us and other boats that had reported shark sightings.

I ask, Would you take a 5-10 minute swim in those waters?

I kinda did we had a Mako very much alive tail roped off the stern It was a hot day me and my buddy jumped in for a swim we forgot all about it being there

anybody who has surfed or body surfed the south shore already has. I worked at JBSP from '69 to '76 and there were sightings those years as well.

If you swim in any body of salt water, or Lake Titicaca, you're swimming in waters that have sharks. Never give it a second thought, HOWEVER, I sure wouldn't swim in area close to a seal colony, nor wear a black wet suit.

Would you give it a thought if you knew there were sharks actively feeding on fish in the area?

Zero chance I'm doing that! I've seen many tied-off sharks get attacked by other sharks in my day. I gu7ess that's why you're the General!

Depends on the species of shark and what they were eating? Porbeagles or Threshers eating bunker, no second thought, GWS, bulls, hammerheads dining on anything, then I wouldn't be hoping in the water...

Are we talking Sand Sharks? What type of shark did they hook up on?

George,
I don't even step foot in the beach since JAWS. Scared for life.

I worked at Jones Beach from 69 through 76. Used to body surf before or after every shift it the waves were decent. Readily admit that after I saw Jaws with a "coworker" the week it opened and then a week or two later with a different "coworker" looking down instead of at the next wave was part of the routine. But forego riding the waves until my body could no longer take it ? No way. Those sharks have been out there for eons.
