Upstate NY will never break away from the people who pay 3/4's of their taxes. Take away the State Police and upstate NY counties would have to triple/quadrupple their police force. The average homeowner up there pays about $1500 property tax and what is the figure on Long Island ? I see my upstate property tax bill and 3/4's of the tax bill is paid by state aid. I look at my Long Island tax bill and only 1/4 is paid by state aid.
I see beautiful middle class homes in Norwich, NY ( Central NY ) and many pay $700 -$1000 property tax. They have city gas and super cheap upstate electric about 1/10 the cost LI'ers pay.
