I was surprised how good it was, didn’t expect too much from this place. I was very satisfied ?
Nice to hear that about the cod tasting good. I would have guessed it was frozen cod or maybe pollock. I do not mean any offense or insult whatsoever. As some of us know, there is virtually no local cod this entire winter. Viking fleet gave up early and cancelled month of February until further notice. Island Current III up in Rhode Island made like 3 Facebook posts for February. Couple posts said slowwwwww fishing, light crowds or nice to see juvenile fish for the future. and one day had decent showing of big cunners and a few market size cod keepers. I have friends who were on a couple trips on the Superhawk of Point Lookout so far. They said nothing to write home about either. They were happy they caught a few haddock. Not fun when the ride back to the port is 6 hours. I fished party boats from December through now . 2 trips to the west Capt Al. /3 market size keepers. Captree Princess in beginning of January and got 1 barely keeper. And then the weather, oh boy. I got cancelled Feb 3 for the Captree Princess because of iceing in Great South Bay. Princess has had no trips scheduled since then. I got a text message from Capt. Joe of the King Cod this afternoon. I booked him for a 6 pack spot for cod for this Tuesday, March 5. Due to the offshore seas forecast and the weather , I am canceled. Because of the seas forecasts coming up, King Cod will take reservations for cod starting again, Monday March 11.In all my years, I can't remember such a cod season like this one. March is not looking too good either. No one I talk to really knows where the cod went. As far as Block Island and Coxes ledge, I think there are no herring/mackeral. I fish all winter for herring and this season was a real stinker ending earlier in December then I can ever remember and never came back. Friends with boats told me seals disappeared by Jones Inlet. they stay all winter when there are herring near Jones Inlet/ Reynolds channel. The Brooklyn VI made one Mackeral trip in January and quit after that. The Capt Lou fleet of freeport did not fish for mackeral this year either. Just my 2 cents. Curious if any one here has heard anything about local cod? Theories? Just wondering.
But happy for you Chevy 1 that your cod was good and the great deal on those mussels and clams!!! Sounds like a winner dining experience.(y)(y) I'm from Queens. Where is Jake's 58? CIAO, John.
