It’s time to reduce climbers to a manageable size and tie back canes that have come loose during the winter . simplify to strong canes , eliminate anything crossing and rubbing . As long as the plant is strong and is pushing new growth you can be firm in pruning. Start feeding in a couple of weeks and continue monthly until mid September. Spray program should commence beginning of May.

We use crapes on a lot of our properties, reliable later color and can be maintained to a reasonable size if necessary

Aphids are a big problem with them the past 2-3 years

we have an issue with mildew here - couple of species are prone to it - had to take down two of them last fall
