man did I get lost coming back from Maryland this afternoon............
Was returning from Lowes & decided to get off the main highway & head over to Saxis Island & see what that's all about.
Very small town surrounded by wetlands. Darn thing sits at sea level. Heard there's a decent seafood place & thought I might try it for lunch.
This actually turned out to be probably 1/2 a one horse town.
There was also a secondary reason. I was carrying gutters & down spouts for my back porch & they were hanging out of the bed of the truck & wanted to avoid problems with the police for not having them "flagged:. Figured I'd take back roads to Onancock.
Well there was no reason to fear police involvement. I doubt the road system I was on carried more then 1/2 dozen vehicles a month. Swamp/wetlands on either side of the road. Then the GPS went out. Sun Spots? Russians? Solar Flash? GPS just giving up it was so remote (You're on your own buddy)?
Who knows. It was showing me as being in the middle of the Chesapeake.
OK. So I'll use the compass in the dashboard to find my way out. Seems my compass was out as well.
Now I'm checking the sun position.
After about 1/2 hour of trying to get back to civilization without guidence & ending up in two deadends, a field & the enterance to a dock - the GPS finally comes back along with my compass. I was soooo far off to where I thought I was it was incredible. I was back in Maryland. Completely turned around.
Lewis & Clark I'm not.
