February/March here, probably March/ April by you . But definitely do it before any new spring growth appears.@Chevy1 - probably a stupid question, but when is a good time to lop off a bunch of low branches from my 2 - 3" trunk diameter white pines and white spruces? Now, later fall/early winter or spring?
I'm confident on my maples, birches, oaks, & hated poplars that should be done after they've shed their leaves, right?
Thanks - D
Nice job!! I'm getting my lawn redone again. Wasn't happy with first product. Before (3 weeks ago) and yesterday ??View attachment 54705View attachment 54706View attachment 54707
Much better results in the fall, no crabgrass and less weedsNice job!! I'm getting my lawn redone again. Wasn't happy with first product.
Yup!! You just took your crabgrass out and over seeded?Much better results in the fall, no crabgrass and less weeds
First O top dressed with peat moss , seeded and fertilized.Yup!! You just took your crabgrass out and over seeded?
A little late but at should pop before it’s too cold. They came yesterday, went over the lawn multiple times to rip everything up in front and back yard. New seed 50/50 of rye and bluegrass and then applied a lime mixture. Top soil added to any low spots.

Yea I was worried about that.A little late but at should pop before it’s too cold.
Pruning lower branches can be done anytime of year as long as temperatures are above freezing. But now or early/mid spring are fine.@Chevy1 - Mike, dumb white pine question: I want to lop off a few low limbs on my white pines, now, mid-winter, early spring or late spring?
The biologist in me says not now because trees are still photosynthesizing, not in winter, but early in spring before new buds show. What's the verdict Jedi Master???
Not too bad, phosphorus levels will go down over time as it’s no longer allowed in fertilizer on long island
I read after the fact that you should wait about 6-8 weeks after putting anything down to take a soil sample. I had a lime mixture put down on Oct 21st so that could explain some of the spikes. Not too bad, phosphorus levels will go down over time as it’s no longer allowed in fertilizer on long island
