Do they think we're idiots!

I remember a few years ago a show on TV called Whale Wars, & a well funded group Sea Shepherd, the group used, sometimes, questionable methods to end the killing of whales in the southern ocean. Their web site is active, & says they are dedicated to protection of sea life.

Smith's bill would require immediate, comprehensive investigation into the environmental approval process for offshore wind projects. According to the New Jersey lawmaker, Biden administration officials have ignored his calls for an investigation into the matter and for a moratorium on offshore wind development until the cause of the whale deaths was conclusively determined.

"Nine dead whales have washed up on our beaches since early December, and we still have no meaningful answers from Governor Murphy or the Biden Administration on the broader impact of these projects on the marine environment as they rush to build the largest offshore wind farm in the nation," Smith said in a statement.

Dead whale found in the Rockaways: officials

By Spectrum News Staff Queens

A whale was found dead on Rockaway Beach Friday morning, marking the fifth time a large whale has stranded in New York in less than three months, officials said.

The whale was discovered on the shoreline at Beach 29th Street around 9 a.m., a spokesperson for the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation said.

The creature was about 15 to 20 feet long and had “several wounds across its body,” the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in a statement.

The parks department said it is working in concert with NOAA, the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society and the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation on “a plan for examination and disposal.”

“Biologists are making plans to examine the animal this afternoon as tides allow,” NOAA said in its statement. “Biologists will confirm its length and species, and document all visible injuries during their examination.”

Twenty-three large whales have stranded on the east coast since Dec. 1, including five in New York, according to NOAA.

One of those whales, a 30-foot sperm whale, was found dead on Rockaway Beach in mid-December, officials said.

Another juvenile whale found dead washed up on Beach 29th Street in Rockaway Beach, NY. They're clamming it was a vessel strike but it sure looks post mordom to me. Have we ever witnessed anything like this? All of the magicians creatures washing ashore dead?

This has to change. Once we get the weather we need to go out in force and stop this this. This is the first time I can recall that we have the commercial fishery, the sportfishing industry and the recreational angler on the same side. These are our oceans and we can't just sit back and allow it to happen.

Sure does look like it was cut up and if it was hit by a vessel how the hell did it stay intact and wash up on the beach

This is what was found when blasting was used for oil discovery.

“A review of the impacts of seismic airgun surveys on marine life.” Submitted to the CBD
A Review of the Impacts of Seismic Airgun Surveys on Marine Life

Noise from a single seismic airgun survey, used to discover oil and gas deposits hundreds of kilometers under the sea floor, can blanket an area of over 300,000 km2, raising background noise levels 100-fold (20 dB), continuously for weeks or months (IWC 2005, IWC 2007). Seismic airgun surveys are loud enough to penetrate hundreds of kilometers into the ocean floor, even after going through thousands of meters of ocean. Since this exposes large portions of a cetacean population to chronic noise, the International Whaling Commission’s Scientific Committee noted “...repeated and persistent acoustic insults [over] a large area...should be considered enough to cause population level impacts.” (IWC 2005). A recent report by the Convention on Biological Diversity noted that “...there are increasing concerns about the long-term and cumulative effects of noise on marine biodiversity...” and “...there is a need to...take measures [to] minimise our noise impacts on marine biodiversity...” and “...effective management of anthropogenic noise in the marine environment should be regarded as a high priority for action at the national and regional level...” (CBD 2012).

Get ready @Roccus7 wind power is headed to the once beautiful Gulf of Maine.

We've been under siege for a while already. What I find humorous, is the fact that the BOEM didn't have a clue and never contacted the DOD for this map. Maine is trying to put up an experimental farm of 20 floating windmills*** and their map had HUGE exclusion areas requested by the DOD, does the thought of submarine navigation lanes ring any bells???

***- GOM is way too deep for windmills that are bottom-fixed that the rest of the coast is being fitted out with. So far, all plans by the state call for floaters. Of course, we're fiendishly waiting for one to get erected and then blown over or breaks free during a "wicked bad" Nor'easter. The other biatch is that because they'll have multiple anchors/mooring cables and wires hanging down, we're probably not going to be able to fish very close to them, lest we hang up like crazy. The biggest irony is the Feds complaining about lobster gear entangling whales, but they seem to think that's not going to be a problem with whales. Talk about a "Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead" attitude at DOE and the Administration from an environmental perspective for this, but not for fishermen??

Now that gives me an absolutely brilliant idea. Drill for oil in between the pillars of every one of these bird killing windmills simultaneously so that the whales aren't killed twice by the coincidental pillar pounding and sonic airblasting techniques, leading to disorientation and eventually getting struck by a ship. Just send me a check for the patent.

This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are lying pieces of crap. They are all aware that they're killing these mammals, in fact they've given the green light to kill them. Now we know without a doubt, that they don't care about these whales.

I realize this a lot, but you need to look at all of these permit request to kill whales. It is enormous. It's shocking to me that they will allow this. There is another document showing how many whales they're willing to kill. Again all in the name of green energy. I had to break this into two parts.

Not unprecedented. Each commercial license holder up here gets a kill a marine mammal permit from NOAA if it’s incidental to traps/nets.

Agreed. But why not tell us that they know it's the surveying? I have seen the doc that shows the number of Dolfins and whales that will be killed is in the thousands. I'm trying to get my hands on it.

C'mon, we all know the answer to that. The train has left the station and nothing's going to stop it. Can't wait for the first right whale killing attributed to surveys or mill themselves. Will be hysterical how the Center for Biological Diversity reacts to that...

These companies are protected in a sense because its almost impossible to prove a whale was disoriented and swam on the surface in panic

Evidence of a ship strike however, are obvious.
