Windy Tog

Well-Known Angler
Headed out Monday morning after circumstances had keep me off the water for over three weeks. Weather was 5/10 N/E, not great for the eastern sound with an ebb tide but I was hot to go. It's a little more than an 8 mile run from the ramp, in the Peconic, to Plum Gut, gateway to the eastern sound, well 5/10 n/e was more like a steady 15 with more east than n/e, the ride was slow & wet. The sound was no better than the bay, & found a place to hide, dropped the hook & picked shorts till the tide slowed a little. Tide slowed a little about 11, but not the wind. Got out to some better bottom, still not where I wanted to be, & was able to pick 3 keepers before calling it quits, no sea monsters, but three tog 16/17". Another slow wet ride back to the launch ramp, this time with 3 footers in a following sea. After being off the water for over three weeks, felt like a great day to me.
A side note, with two bait & tackle shops on the North Fork closed due to the owners passing I stopped at another shop on the way out & was a little suprised to pay $15 for three doz green crabs. Wego tackle is closed & will reopen in the spring with a new owner, & Warrens Bait & Tackle has just been sold & will ramain a tackle shop, don't know if the new owner will open this fall or not.

Yea it was a bit rough out there Monday. I fished Fishers Island. I noticed a shop by the Celtic quest in Mattituck I saw back in October. Not sure what they carry/stock

"A" for effort and a "AAA "for perseverance in the face of an east wind, John. Due east or due West winds are particularly nasty in the eastern Sound. So, the fact that you found some fish and had a good time in trying conditions is a major accomplishment!

BTW, Blue Water Lures in Southold is also an option for Bait & Tackle. I'm not sure what he charges for crabs, but Chris is pretty fair on most other prices. I buy all my Bass and Fluke bucktails from him each spring and just picked up some Tog jigs, also at a fair price.
