A Keurig Brand Coffee Makers Review/Commentary/Rant...

1st, let me unequivocally state Keurig K-cup pod coffee, no matter who makes the K-Cup pods, isn't the world's best coffee. Short of a $1000 espresso maker for home use with freshly ground beans, Nespresso seems to be the best home coffee machine. However, when the Home Ministry of Finance & Design decrees that there is only enough counter space for a single coffee maker that supports a wide array of coffee and teas, I'm locked into a machine that uses K-Cups.

We've had both Keurig and Cuisinart brand K-Cup machines. The quick bottom line is that the Cuisinart always significantly significantly outlives its 3-year warranty; the Keurig machines often fail soon after their 1 year warranty expires, WHEN you get a machine that didn't fail immediately or soon after receiving it. We've had multiple "Home" machines and a couple of "Commercial" machines, with the Commercial versions having far better longevity than the Home versions.

Which brings me to the current situation. Our latest, 4-year old Commercial Machine started having the classic Keurig valve failure noises this past spring. We discussed what our options were and since we liked Com Keurig's machine programmable higher brewing temps, far hotter than the standard home machines, but liked the newer Cuisinart instant brewing, no waiting for a boiler to heat up. After some research I found out Keurig had a new line of brewers, the K-Supreme machine, that was instant on, but with a reasonable range of brew temp options.

As I was pricing things out I found the K-Supreme Plus Smart machine, the same machine as the standard K-Supreme, but was internet enabled, not a fan, AND had a higher end for maximum brewing temps. Its price was almost double the K-Supreme, but if you bought it directly from Keurig and subscribed to Keurig for coffee orders, the price came down to match the cheapest K-Supreme costs. Since we already had a coffee subscription to Keurig for the K-Cups I like, this was a no brainer. Additionally, when we bought our "commercial" brewers, they could only be purchased from Keurig and we had a couple of machines delivered DOA, and Keurig was great a quick to replace them. I wouldn't want to deal with another vendor if this was the case with the new purchase.

So the first K-Supreme Plus Smart came last spring and I found it to be great, and had 2 extra "features". 1st - There was no power switch, just closing the brew chamber activated the machine, and 2nd - it was the quietest Keurig machine I've ever heard!! However when I went to hook the machine into our home WiFi, it would constantly fail. OK, call to Keurig and out comes a replacement and they asked, and paid for a return of machine #1

Soon I had KSSP #2 and it was a quick exercise to get my machine logged into the home WiFi, BUT when making coffee it was making the classic Keurig Valve Will Fail Soon Noise. Sure enough, it lasted for 2 weeks before it failed, so we received machine #3. Keurig didn't even want machine #2 back, so it got trashed. Installed machine #3 and everything was fine with the WiFi and it had the "normal Keurig noise" levels. We happily have used this machine since April.

That brings us to mid-September when machine #3 was no longer able to communicate with the home WiFi. After multiple phone calls to Keurig support it was determined to need replacement and voila, machine #4 arrived. So far, it's the "best" one ever. Locked right into the WiFi and brews silently, far more quiet than a "normal" Keurig. Additionally, Keurig didn't want machine #3 back so it's down in the basement as a spare if/when #4 fails goes DOA since it can brew coffee, just no internet connections.

LOL, it's always something...
