And I understand that, but breaches happen naturally, and they close naturally.

I'm in 100% in agreement with you on this. New Yorkers pay enough taxes, there should be reciprocity.

Maybe do it a little more like Nassau does with the parks. Free for residents and a nominal fee for non. However, I'm not much of a fan of that either. I pay a lot of taxes in Nassau even though I'm not technically a "resident."

If tides reach a certain height regardless, how does it get higher? Granted, the water will rise quicker and then retreat sooner. The WH breach was the best thing that could have happened to the bay. And those were my 4 trips a week on boats and surf. Folks I fished with noticed a slightly higher and lower for a bit and then it settled back to "normal". But as we see during storms, one creek gets flooded and others do not. Too many factor to generalize. Absolute shame it was closed.

Because the inlets act as a restriction to the water coming in and going out they moderate the total tide swing. After the breach I saw significantly higher highs and lower low tides. It has gradually returned to normal, but it could be pretty problematic when it was going on.

And sorry, infrastructure is just part of the cost of doing business. Just because you don't personally benefit from it doesn't justify letting it all go to hell. I didn't bit¢# about them rebuilding and reinforcing the bridges upstate after Irene obliterated them. Frankly we should gate the inlets to protect the estuary and the coast as well. That would be a way better use of our tax dollars than most of the $#it this state spends money on.

Eh, I heard some of the same but never the word "significant".

A breach cleaning a bay provides cleaner water and bay for the public as it is a public resource. The public benefits.

The bridges I speak of are all on public roads. The only private bridges I see are crossing a stream to a property and I'm sure those are on the property owner.

I'm not sure where you're deriving this private use thing. It's the f-ing Great South Bay. How is that private use?

Really not speaking of any specific waterway, but...................

Try driving to many road ends and park to get out and enjoy the GSB and let me know what happens in 15 or so minutes.

Try driving to Westhampton Dunes and do the same. Never had an issue when it was breached.

A ticket on the car. At a beach that was once wiped out and replace I shed with my money and now says “no parking”
