Should NY have a Minimum Property Tax that homeowners have to pay ?

This isn't political .
I look at my Long Island Tax bill and it's $14,000 a year and I look at my Chenango County Property Tax bill and it's under $700 a year ( both school and county/local tax) taxes on a property that's 11 1/4 acres and has a small cabin. I could live there full time and send 3 kids to school and my taxes would be the same. The guy next door lives up there full time and pays no more than $1500 property tax on 5 acres and a larger building . I see homes in Norwich, NY worth $100,000 - Beautiful homes that would easily be $500,000 on Long Island - and the taxes are $1500 a year. A homeowner there could send 12 kids to school and their taxes would be exactly the same. Take a look at the homes in Norwich , NY - beautiful homes in a college type town without the college.
No way does $1500 pay for the schools /local/county Govt. up there . They heavily use the NY State Police up there who do real policing up there . Down here they're ticket writers.
There should be an alternative minimum property tax every full time homeowner should be forced to pay. Obviously those benefiting with low taxes will never support that , the Courts would have to get involved. People are getting discriminated against based on where they live .

Sure. More taxes.. That will fix everything.

You're kind of doing the Warren Buffet thing, complaining that you're not paying enough because your secretary pays more taxes than you instead of asking why your secretary's taxes are so high.

The whole point of a minimum property tax Would be to even out the tax burden and get a tax reduction in downstate NY. More State Aid would come our way and school taxes would go down. My property taxes upstate are half school and half county and local, both tax bills are about the same amount. Down on Long Island my school tax is almost twice what the county and local tax bill is. And what's so irritating to see, my upstate NY tax bill has gone down . Down here they get around the tax cap by just increasing the assessed value. Cap the Property taxes Senior Citizens pay at half the normal tax.Seniors have paid taxes all the years they've lived in the house and have no children going to school.

No!!!! We all choose where we live and there are pros and cons to that choice . We’re assessed at 800,000 and pay 2,800 , Southampton school district . In Hampton Bays the same house would be assessed at 650,000 and pay around 6,500. Tuckahoe would assess at 800,000 and pay 10,000. Choices my good man

Yeah, I'm still struggling to see how this makes things fair. We have Public sector unions here where our teachers and police are making six-figure salaries, and the population density is huge.

How us hammering the lower income/opportunity communities that don't demand so much from government is reasonable escapes me.
