Local publications like the Fire Island News noted that he was connected to the local community as a cousin of one of their contributors, but they have also chosen to keep his name private.
- Age and Background: The man was 59 years old (born in 1966) and had reportedly spent his life in public service with Suffolk County.
- Final Actions: Security footage showed him entering the lighthouse alone, purchasing a ticket for the tower, and climbing to the top before jumping from the observation deck.
- Investigation: The Suffolk County Homicide Squad and the National Park Service handled the investigation and confirmed there was no foul play involved.
