    Interesting Mola Mola factoids...

I saw my first one many years ago while on a party boat out of Sheepshead Bay. It was enormous and lying on its side on the surface. At the time I attributed the posture to the huge bite taken out of its body from what I presume had to be a great white as the bite was probably 18 inches across.

Fished Wednesday and Thursday. Nothing spectacular either day. We took my boat Wednesday and my buddy's Thursday. Bucktails and teasers with gulp, squid, peanuts and spearing. Hit Rockaway Reef Wednesday because my fishing buddy swore he got a great tip the bite was hot with big fluke there. As...

Went out early this morning to beat the S wind. Drift was slow and the bite was slower. Tried a spot where we had a load of big sea bass last weekend but there was nothing there today. Moved around in and off shore. Picked away at the shorts. Headed in at 12:30 with 4 keepers 17.5 to 20.75. Not...

Fished early today at the north west end of Rattlesnake. Slow .5mph drift to start. 3 of us picked away for a limit of black sea bass and 4 fluke 3 slot amd one over. The best part of the day and most frustrating was a move I made to an area where no one was fishing and in ten minutes we had...

    Stinger Hook - My Version

Plain 20lb mono with a loop and hook snelled attached to the eye of the bucktail will do the job too.

    First Light

Nice report. Great bass. I have been marking them but they seem pretty tight lipped

    Fished after work

Ran to the boat after work. Started in the back of the bay close to the lighthouse. Drifted the channel edge. Gulp and bucktails for fluke. Caught 1 short before a friend called me and offered live peanuts. Ran to meet him and we fished together. First three fish with the peanuts were sand...

    Fished Sunday at Rockaway Reef

I went with 4 friends to Rockaway Reef in hopes of finding a mixed bag of porgies, sea bass and fluke. Lines in at 6:30 a.m. While we caught sea bass, fluke, blackfish, sea robins, sand sharks, spiny dogfish and skates we only managed 1 keeper fluke about 20 inches. No porgies. Not even a...

    Fished for fluke today

Full boat. I went with a friend and his wife, his cousin and fiancé for fluke. He wanted to try for fluke. We hit the north end of sandy hook reef but the drift was almost nonexistent. Lots of boats on the south end so we tried there. No fluke and it seemed everyone was moving and looking. Went...

    Fluke fishing the bay

It was in fact the last drift. I had enough by then and I finally had my keeper.

    Fluke fishing the bay

Sorry for the late report. Fished Monday all day. Started early 6am with two friends. Hit some of my usual channel edges, shallow flats near shore but found nothing. Headed to the islands at west bank. Fished the N side. Caught a couple of scattered short fluke and had a bunch of sand sharks...

    Hot Fluke Setups 2021/2022

The trick I tried late season last year was to tie a mini swim shad on a 2-3 ft leaders 12-18 inches above the bucktail and add a trailer hook to the long gulp baits. The swim shad caught a lot of fish that would usually only nip at the bigger baits and the majority of the fish on 6 inch grubs...

    Fluke fishing the bay

Gave it a try. Outgoing tide and west wind but the drift speed was manageable. Hit some of the usual spots on the NY side. Caught 4 and 1 19 my friend had 2 before we were covered up with charters and others. Only saw one other fish caught. Short fluke that went back. Fished bucktails and...

    Fluke fishing in Raritan Bay

Fished in the bay. Got out late caught the first of the incoming. Wind against tide so the drift wasn't too fast. 4 fluke 2 jersey keepers. 1 under 18 1 over. 2 short 16 and 13. Back in to help a friend on his boat.
