I saw my first one many years ago while on a party boat out of Sheepshead Bay. It was enormous and lying on its side on the surface. At the time I attributed the posture to the huge bite taken out of its body from what I presume had to be a great white as the bite was probably 18 inches across.

The trick I tried late season last year was to tie a mini swim shad on a 2-3 ft leaders 12-18 inches above the bucktail and add a trailer hook to the long gulp baits. The swim shad caught a lot of fish that would usually only nip at the bigger baits and the majority of the fish on 6 inch grubs...
