1996 Privateer Renegade I/O to Outboard Conversion

I want to buy the outboard locally and visited four different Suzuki dealers today ....... I am having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around the idea of dropping ~25k on an outboard .....

John - did you look down here? May find it a bit cheaper if you can figure out a way to get it back to you. Suzuki dealer in Accomac.
Sandpiper Marine

The guy that worked on my boat used to work for them. Left to start his own business. If it seems reasonable or a little cheaper than you're coming across - let me know. I'll talk to my boat guy (when I used to have a boat to have a boat guy) & see if he can do any better on the price from them. He may also know someone selling an outboard with low hours on it. I can ask if you want me to.

Psssss ... All the local boys one by one are going to E Tec's .........
Why ? Too many had electrolysis / internal engine rot with various 4 strokes ............ Three full time family members had sukes , all three are one and done and now have E Tecs on the transom .............
Pss, Psss .... That Suke dealer on the South Shore in central LI is a Soap Opera .... Husband and Wife are divorced , neither wants the other to get the Business , Soooo , the ex wife runs the office , while the ex husband runs the shop along with the son ... Interesting place , smoldering fire constantly brewing between the Ex's .............

My 140 Zuke runs like the day I installed it .... 10 years ago. Many cases of that engine being trouble free for 6000 hrs plus. In my opinion the best experience I had today with LI dealers was with Moriches. I can't bring myself to consider a 2 stroke. Oil in the gas for lubrication vs mechanical parts bathed in oil during operation. That is a hard sell for me. Suzuki 6 year warranty ........ ok, hold on, just looked at etec website. 10 yr warranty ? Time to do some reading .....

The 2 stroke oil does turn out to be a bit more expensive , BUT , no oil changes , no mess , no fuss ............
We all have our own opinions thats why they make Miller and Budweiser Beer ...... Best of luck regardless of your choice ............

Stringers are about 90% tabbed in. Three layers of 1708.

John - was checking Sandpiper Marine in Accomac VA, inventory on Suzukis & they are showing the following in inventory:
  • DF300AP 300HP $18,000
  • DF205AP 250HP $17,000
  • DF250 250HP $16,500
  • DF350A 350HP $22,000
All are new. You mentioned $25,000 up north for a 300HP.

I don't know if that pricing warrants buying down here & then trucking it to Smithtown. Or if your truck could handle the weight & can you then get it out of the truck once you get it there.

My former boat guy is going to keep an ear out for anyone looking to sell either a new or slightly used engine in the class you're looking for. He also mentioned one other Marine House in Exmore that may carry them. Haven't checked there yet. However former "boat guy" said that there will probably not be much of a difference between the two - they pretty much price everything competitively.

Those are great prices Larry ...... I would definately consider dragging the boat down there for that kind of savings !

Still working on the bracket details ..... trying to eliminate interference between bolt patterns and the stringers and my doubler transitions.

I have not been able to get back to work on the boat in a couple weeks. I did finally get the order in on the bracket. I choose to use Stainless Marine. They were middle of the road on price and I felt most comfortable with them in regard to the design. It did involve a good amount of time putting the final drawing together and double and triple checking my measurements.
