1996 Privateer Renegade I/O to Outboard Conversion

Capt13, your transom can never be thick enough in my opinion, I added an extra 3/4" to my transom and felt that it wasn't thick enough, right now my transom is 3" with 3 peaces of 3/4 in marine plywood and many ,many layers of 1708 bi axial.
I like where your going with this.

a hard backed pad ? ....... Is this what you mean? I started using a flapper disk on my grinder. Tears it up quick, but man, what a mess ! Is this what you mean?

Harbor Freight

New favorite tool, should have bought one twenty years ago. Light weight and tears the heck out of the glass ! I'll take it over my belt sander anyday !! :

.....and the old standby makita 9" grinder.
Probably not needed but ........ I'm going to add another section of 3/4" ply glassed to the transom. Photo is the trial fit before I mix up thickend epoxy to bond it in place tomorrow. I already put a layer of 1708 on it and tapered the edges. The new stringers will tie into it.View attachment 3534

With an outboard the boat should sit a bit higher than with that old I/O ... DEC uses either that same hull or the 21 for water quality testing for LI clamming grounds

I've seen them trailering the 24' around .......

fiberglass dust?

I don't think so ...... I have been wearing a 3m full face respirator in addition to having an exhaust fan running. Wednesday I was at the blood work lab for my check-up yesterday morning at the crowded doctors office. Woke up this morning sick.

No not that... I was going to ask you if you knew what one “casket”said to the other “casket”?

Is that you “coffin”??⚰?coughing? Get it?

Take a good look , change the Drain plug housing if needed .............. If you thinking of a deck washdown , think of enlarging the deck drains ... For our workboats we have been using 2 inch threaded PVC ...
If your going to do a 'yacht' finish , PVC may or may not give you the 'look'

Turned out I had pneumonia ..... 5 days of antibiotics last week. Still having a rough go of it. I did manage a little work today for the first time in about 12 days . Coated the limber holes I cut in the stringers. Roughed up some pvc and epoxied them in place for routing wires and hoses so they aren't laying in the bilge water. The stringers are upside down and the left sides will be up against the transom.
