2019 Western Sound Spring Bass run...

I didn't have a GoPro Sunday morning, but let me describe how the action would have played out.

Collecting a bunch of live bunker. Actually would have made good video. Cutting them into chunks and tossing them out in various areas between Execution and Matinicock, 25-60 foot depths and long video stretches of quiet rods and not much on the fishfinder screen other than bait.
Wind against tide was a bitch.
Oh yeah, one sandshark. Caught more of those in the Sound this year than my lifetime fishing the Sound combined.

Took the boat for its initial spin after a bunch of repairs....ran pretty good...still a couple of bugs to sort out. Did drop some chunks to the bottom...3 dogs, 2 robins, and 1 34 inch bass. 50 feet...mid sound..incoming..dusk.

A Sandshark??

How big was it? Never caught one in the sound but would love to check it off the list.

The amount of dogs I've caught the last two seasons im very close to keeping my first one and filleting it.

After all, thats where you get fish and chips from.

Couple of my long time fishing buddies have changed up their game from chunking, to plugging in close at first light. They’re catching while I’m jerkin my gerkin....chasing the good ole’ days of chunking a half dozen slobs.

My understanding is there are two types, one is tasty, one, maybe not for everyone.
dogfish/sandshark, is there a difference?
I know sand tiger is different.
BTW, some of them cut me off at the leader trying to unhook them and fray your leader even if they don't cut you off. All i know for sure is they are a pain in the ass.

Smoothskin dogfish, are those which you usually catch in the sound on chunks. Can get to 22lbs max and go into spins and tangle up your line. Sand paper skin.

Sandshark aka sand tiger sharks get massive - up to 11ft and possibly 400. Teeth look similar to makos but narrower. People do catch them in the sound once in a blue moon, but they are uncommon. You cannot keep them as they are protected. I know people on this board have caught them before, albeit rarely.

Assuming what you meant is you caught dogfish the othernight and not sand(tiger)sharks? The latter would be an awesome catch!
