2020 Western Sound Bass run ...

I think my chunking season is just about done, but did manage an INTERESTING fish last night. Caught a 38 incher, that would have been 40 plus except for its deformed tail. Got it in 50 feet (deepest i've fished this year, but was looking for cooler temps). 70/71 degrees on surface. Took a Bunker chunk that wasn't taken by a dogfish before she could find it. This was in the Fairfield area.

Nice fish! Just curious have the dogfish been bad around that area?

Not too bad. I usually catch between 2 and 6 a night. Anywhere from Greenwich to Fairfield, that usually happens. They are the thickest, I've found, around oyster bay. They stay off the bunker heads, but unfortunately the stripers have been staying off the heads this year too. The dogfish love a body chunk and that's what I've been getting the stripers on. so they are a necessary evil. The big ones I don't mind. they are pretty fun, and they are good practice for less experienced anglers that I have on board some times. The little ones are annoying. you don't know you have one on until they have already tail wrapped themselves and chafe up your leaders!

Gotcha thanks! Any luck with floating chunks? Or is everything on the bottom?

I've never tried floating them. always on the bottom. I like to fish the fastest current pinches I can find, if I didn't have any weight, i feel like my chunks would be spinning on the top.
 
Not a bass report but anyone have porgies in their neck of the woods and if so, how far West have they moved?

Taking my gf and her friends out tomor and would like to put them on some steady action without having to run to 32a.

Not sure how far west they’ve moved. I’ve seen a lot of big party boats moving all over the sound yesterday.
 
Everybody staying west of Gangway...NR is loaded too...shrimp baby, they love shrimp!Thats the porgys...Guys as of Thursday we’re still trolling up 40pound bass in the area.
But it’s 1 here 4 hours later another...I had a knock down on a big spoon but missed! Probably a cocktail blue!?
