It would be wonderful if they made such a comeback that it became part of the equation.Maybe mortality due to Eagle predation needs to be included in the myriad of charts, graphs and calculations involved in the coastal management of Striped bass. We have evidence .... it exists !

Amazing how it never gets old, when watching themThe last five years or so I have seen the numbers going up at my place upstate. From an occasional siting to having 8 Eagles landing on the edge of the pond last fall. 3 Mature and what looked like juveniles for the other 5. When my field gets hayed we have been seeing them pick up the casualties..... mice, rabbits, birds etc. that have been taken out by the cutter. This one flew right in our direction last fall.

This was posted yesterday on FB under Long Island Wildlife Photography. It didn't give the location.

I saw one a few times in the back of the Nissey. Possibly the same bird. There was a bald eagle patrolling Stony Brook Harbor two years ago. I saw it a few times. I did not see it last year, but then again I was not back there until early November.

When lakes freeze over they tend to venture out for food.I had one fly directly over my house in Middle Island/Ridge, 3 weeks ago but by the time I got my phone out to take a picture it was to far away.Supposedly there was a pair that was hanging around Artist lake in middle island last year.
They never nested there this year, but they did over on the Short Beach side.there had been an osprey nesting by the mouth of the Rver a few years back - don't know if it's still there however........
Last time I saw it had to be 7 years ago (been down here 5). It was flying overhead at less than treetop level with its wings outstretched.
Just glidin'.
I was BBQing at the time & closed the lid of the "Q" real quick. Thought it might have been coming for my steak.
another beautiful sight..............................
the bird
not the steak
