Here's deaths (NYT from CDC data) and we are see it starting to take off as those getting sick after the restarts are now passing...

Here's hospitalizations (CDC) by age. Haven't seen a spike yet, but with FL, AZ, CA & TX filling their ICUs it won't be long. Historical hospitalizations in these states would be interesting to see. The other interesting point here is that on a % basis, 65+ hospitalizations down and younger ages hospitalizations increasing. The elder drop could be because the most susceptible have been "weeded" out.

I knew the Covid Party story was BS from the get-go. They always print the retraction days later after the story goes around the world.

The Times could not independently verify Dr. Appleby’s account. On Monday, the San Antonio health department said its contact tracers did not have any information “that would confirm (or deny)” that such an event had happened there.

In recent days, the hospital distributed video of Dr. Appleby describing the case , along with a press statement. She did not say when or where the party took place, how many people attended or how long afterward the man was hospitalized with Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. She said she was sharing the story to warn others, especially in Texas, where cases are surging.

Health experts have been skeptical that such parties occur, and details of this case could not be independently confirmed.

SUFFOLK CO., Long Island (WABC) -- Suffolk County officials confirmed at least four people who attended a Fourth of July party are among more than 100 new positive COVID cases - the highest since May.

The county recorded 102 positive cases on Tuesday - a 2% increase.

Regarding an outbreak stemming from July 4th party, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone confirmed four people tested positive.

ok so the virus started in china 8000 miles from here with one infected person and spread around the globe in a matter of months. unless you eradicate it so long as one person has it , it will spread again as you reopen . I truly don't understand ppl , do you really believe that the country or world can stay locked down 18 months or more .

do you not see the untold damages far in excess of the virus that will cause


do you not understand that its simply impossible for all but a tiny portion of the population to do

do you not understand that the govt can't continue to hand out dollars it doesn't have ands no chance to recover without a tax base , to keep ppl afloat.

do you not understand that if it continues your own $$ will be valueless and you yourselves will be on bread lines

there's a far far broader picture here than simply a virus that might make you sick and might kill you

what's going on will destroy you, may already have
 
No one knows precisely.

I’m guessing using a large dose of common sense can go a long way in the near term - i.e. Masks. Washing hands. Social distancing, etc...But that’s just my $0.02.

A vaccine is going to take longer then most people realize. Some have taken decades to come about. And let’s not forget to mention all the anti-vaxers that are going to put up a fuss.

It’s doesn’t always work

some vaccines do work very well
Some no so well and
Some only at times on certain strains

we won’t know with this virus how effective a vaccine will be

and let’s say it’s 50/75 percent effective
Then what’s the excuse to stay shuttered

bottom line
Can’t stay shut in and shut down for any longer

it’s fairly simply

the cure or treatment can’t be allow to be worse than the illness

Tony. I dont think you really get it. We say wearing masks will do a lot to reduce the transmission. Yet people refuse to do it because they think it is infringing on their rights. They say social distancing works yet there are places that open bars and other places where that is impossible. So the next step is to say well we close up because people are stupid and cant follow simple directions.

I really dont think ANYONE wants to close everything down. But if simple instructions cant be followed what is the alternative?
 
IMHO the only thing that is going to get people on board with masks and distancing is when several people they know, who are under 50 60 years of age, either die or end up in congregate care.
