Coronavirus

did you check with your doctor?

That's where I received my two shots of the vaccine. Didn't even know he was administering them until his office called me & asked if I'd like to come in.
I just saw her on Feb 8. I asked and she told me that they weren't allotted any vaccines.

I wonder if u have to be a full time va resident to get a shot down there?

Capt13 asked me the same thing. You have residency - give it a shot. If you need the name of the doctor (I'd recommend him anyway - you're going to need a doctor) - PM me & I'll get you his name & number.

The new found super power of both COVID vaccinations is starting to allow me to enjoy some of the small pleasures of life that I've been avoiding. For first time in over a year I double-masked up to visit my local barber.

Was very impressed with his safety protocols, he was masked with a high-quality medical grade mask, cleaned and sanitized the chair after each client, seats separated and windows opened. We started talking about the Pandemic and he told me many of his older, 3rd or greater Generation Maineahs have stopped coming because he insisted that they wear masks and they refuse. As I was shaking me head in disbelief he said, "Dom, some actually accused me of being a Liberal!!"

At that point I burst out laughing and said, "OMG a 'Liberal' Retired Airborne!! Didn't know they existed? Well let me, an accused 'Liberal Snowflake Scientist', welcome you to the 'Dark Side'; we have masks like Darth Vader!"

All that aside, it was so nice having a professional haircut and beard trim again, while looking at Mike's pictures of his Airborne training, service, and diploma. The Admiral has been cutting my hair in the interim, and doing a fine job, but it's just not the same.

I get my haircuts in a private home, she has been cutting hair there on Fridays for 25 years now. I went every month to see her for the last year, we both didn't get sick - neither did any of her other clients. Simple single masks and her disinfecting everything between clients.

I guess I'm just lucky. :)

Will it be resistant to vaccines?

Early evidence suggests that it could affect the efficacy to some degree.

Researchers test for this by seeing if the strain is resistant to the protection typically provided by antibodies, which patients have either because they’ve recovered from COVID-19 or because they’ve been vaccinated against it.

This variant was four times more impervious than the original COVID strain to the impact of antibodies in people who’ve recovered from the coronavirus, according to the UCSF research. The research also showed the variant was two times more impervious to antibodies in people who’ve been vaccinated with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. Those numbers are “moderate but significant,” the UCSF analysis said.

Those are slightly better odds than seen with the South African variant.

Kalifornia ?! Hopefully if I catch it it won't turn me into a tofu eating, down with fossil fuels, no fur coats, end capital punishment, anti-hunting and fishing, and everyone gets a trophy snowflake.

Updated to add that three hours ago I got the Moderna booster shot. No reaction YET.

It astonishes me that even though I have been vaccinated, the state still requires me to quarantine for 14 days upon returning from a non-contiguous state or international.

The vaccine does not prevent you from becoming infected. It gives your immune system the ability to fight the virus which it didn't have before the vaccine. And because you can still become infected you can therefore be shedding the virus & spreading it to others

You know what the difference is between the CA and NY variants?

CA Infected Folks: Bummer man, I've got COVID.

NY Infected Folks: COVID? I got your COVID right here!!

44 hours after booster and except for some soreness at the site of injection, nothing else to speak of. I did sign in with V-Safe, which I am hoping might actually serve some day as proof of vaccination (since that CDC card is a joke) and will serve as my "show me das paperz !" for travel if required.

I'm not sure how that's eventually going to play out - vaccination only means you shouldn't develop full blown case. You can still carry it and give it to others from what they've been telling us hence the mask mandate.

Based on what you said, does it make sense that a vaccinated person doesnt need to quarantine if exposed here in NYYET they need to quarantine if they travel to another state and were not exposed?

CDC had millions of people who are now fully vaccinated but have no idea how to get back to some semblance of normalcy. How about starting with better vaccination cards and start allowing the vaccinated more flexability with travel and socialization?

All I have gotten out of being fully vaccinated is the warm and fuzzy feeling that if I do catch it it will be so mild that I may not know I even caught it. But no source or hub of transportation would ever accept that dopey little card we got as proof.

I was just answering your question.

the whole quarantining thing when you leave your state is pretty sketchy at best................

Example: my mom died back in September. I had two brothers (1 from NY - the other from CT) come down here to see her before she passed. They both had to beat it out of VA in under 24 hours or they would need to quarantine for 14 days when they returned to their respective states.

So - if they left on the 23rd hour they'd be fine - however - if they left on the 25th hour - no good. I wasn't aware that the virus was capable of telling time.
