If the home test comes back positive make sure they get the real test
Actually, you got it reversed. The home antigen test has a very high positive predictive value when you're symptomatic, so it it's positive, you're sick. Its negative predictive value isn't great if you're asymptomatic.

So if you test negative and have no symptoms, but someone in the house has it or were in close contact with someone who definitely got it, then go get the PCR test.

You can scroll up a few hundred pages or got to the science test to learn "Why"...

I'll gladly chalk it all up to the usual government incompetence. Nobody offers any of the above. My wife and kid tested positive and there was nothing further done. No in-depth, no varietal testing, just quarantine for X days, yadda, yadda. My test was negative. Was there any QED or whatever further testing? Nope.

Yet the statistics pile up.

And then we wonder why everybody distrusts everything about this whole mess. The monumental incompetence and corruption surrounding this whole thing is appalling.

But no worries. According to the conspiracy theorists we'll all be dead in another two years or so because of the jab.

Carry on as usual.

?????????

Hang in there. If I'm reading between the lines correctly, I take it you're frustrated because you weren't retested because of your negative result, while the wife and kid were positive. Assumed you were all tested using an in-home Antigen test, correct? Did you retest yourself or try to get retested? If additional testing was unavailable for some reason, yeah, the standard "Quarantine" rules would apply and that would be that.

One of the big holes in the home testing strategy is actual result reporting. Very few, if any, report results, be they negative or positive. FDA is trying to link home tests with using a phone APP to get results so the data goes automatically to state officials, but I think they're taking a leak on the windward side of the boat. I've run over a dozen tests at home and have never reported any of them to the State CDC. FYI, I just ordered 3 home antigen test kits from Sam's Club with home delivery. Not sure if you still can get them there if anyone is interested.

As a matter of protocol, nowhere near every positive result goes on for typing. It's complex testing that can only be run in a few special labs. Each state takes a representative sampling and sends them out, that's why you see the reported numbers as percentages. I'm not even sure if your sample was sent out for variant testing you would be able to find out with the result was. That adds a level of complexity from the sample chain of custody that is not necessary.

Now IF there ever are different treatment regimes for the different variants, then it would be critical info, but since that is not currently the case there's no need right now.

So a friend had to get a real covid test yesterday hes having a medical thing done this upcoming Tuesday they want to make sure he doesent Have Covid at the time of his medical procedure Does this make sense?

Absolutely makes sense. Wife had to have test each time before each cataract surgery last year. Test had to be within just a few days and the results came back to us the day before if not the morning of.

When you say "real", I assume you mean the PCR test that's sent off to a large lab.

What you say is true, but one has to look at that in terms of current testing volume and the holidays. Yes, it makes "sense" in that it's the most sensitive test available, run within the available time slot. With the holidays, getting it run on Thursday was the best that could be done realistically when one considers the holiday and the volume of testing going on right now.

If it was a normal week, they're probably have had him tested today or tomorrow. Since labs can't guarantee 24 hr turnaround, a Monday test is out of the question for a Tuesday procedure, but that would be the best possible case.

if testing can’t be done timely
Why bother wasting the time on doing it

that is the definition of “ dog and pony show”

just like mask if the work at all , if they are not the right mask put on taken off and worn properly another dog and pony show

Put enough dog and pony shows in one place we got ourselves one giant gov mandated circus

sorry I’m not into clowns

No home testing. These were done at a City MD. I have no symptoms and tested negative so I see no point in a retest. If I develop symptoms there wouldn't be any doubt about what it is. I'm just unimpressed with the handling of the whole thing. Officials all crying about the new variant and how dangerous it's supposed to be but it seems like just a random guess how much of it is out there or not.

Yes PCR test everyone that I know who has had one including myself it took at least 2-4 days to get results back and this was way before the Holidays

excellent…

Daughter tested positive too. Low grade fever and a cough. Last two days have been very tired. Sleeping by 7pm. Which is the version with loss of smell? That’s us.

Probably Delta, BUT Omicron may have loss of smell. It's been reported that it's not as frequent w/Omicron.

Regardless, one can't tell which variant by virtue of the symptoms. The only way to know is to type the virus, which isn't routinely done since treatments all the same.

All of you need to hang in there. Keep an eye on your %O2 if you have one of those meters at home. If it drops below 93% call a doc ASAP.

Continued wishes for a speedy recovery by all...

Dad's in the ER, we're hoping it's not Covid.
Saddest part is we can't stay and he's alone.
That sucks
And I understand too well

my aunt was in hospital with little/no hope ( not covid simply old old age)
We took her home Thursday’s as to avoid her passing alone in a hospital
They cut hours to 4 a day and only one person per day
Unacceptable

hopefully she will get in home hospice care before this get bad
As of today we are on our own
