There is now apparently a shortage of plastic bags. They were rationing what they had & substituting paper bags. I normally prefer & ask for paper - but I mean - really??

Maine was supposed to ban plastic bags April 1, but that got delayed and stores will NOT let you bring in your own bags now.

I'm aware of that - but these things can be produced by the millions daily. I don't understand there how there cab be a shortage of 'em.

R - I was a Purchasing Director for 20 + years - I am well aware of that term. It also means/requires that the manufacturer keep X amount in their inventory (above & beyond what is normally ordered) at all times so they can be brought in quickly if needed. It's known as a Reserve Stock.

At least one market here has signs requesting you leave your reusable bags at home. I guess they don't want you bringing your filthy germs to the store.

Also considering the bans going into effect isn't it possible that manufacturers have cut back production? Or, more likely, gone out of business. You know, because as long as we're saving the world who cares who loses their job.

They are in short supply because stores and wholesale suppliers allowed their inventories to drop to nothing in preparation for the ban

Just sayin'. The unintended consequences of saving the planet from plastic bags. Clean bags? Pfffft. Who goes out of business, and who gets laid off? Pfffft. Mere collateral damage in the fight to save the world, right?

Kind of like the Maine lobster thing Roccus posted about. I mean, there's no nobler cause than saving the whales, is there? It has to be true, I've seen it on bumper stickers.
