Coyote spotted on Robert Moses beach

I think there are more common than most of us want to believe. They are very shy and hide from man very well. I think they are in all large wooded areas on LI now, as are turkey and deer.
 
WhenI was a teenager, I used to hunt out in Montauk, and one day I came across the prints of a bear. They were way too large to be any kind of dog. I never saw it but I believe it was there.

3 years ago I reported a Coyote sighting at the south end of the Robert Moses bridge on Captree Island. It was in the wooded area to the west of the Moses Bridge and Southwest of the drawbridge. I was 4 wheeling where I was not supposed to be. I left a message for the DEC and 4 days later they called me back for a detailed description. So I have no doubt that it has been there for years. It stands to reason. There's a lot of small game there and certainly a lot of deer.

If there is one, I am sure there are more!
 
I wish we could find a way to eradicate ticks! The Coyote's might possibly have an effect on the deer population one day but we need something that will eat ticks. I know quail do as well as guinea hens but something has to be done and soon. I can't go in the woods anymore and my wife has Lyme disease. It's devastating! I like to think that there is a purpose for every one of God's creatures on this earth, but for the life of me, I can't imagine any downside to the complete eradication of ticks from the planet.

Birds eat ticks. Turkey quail pheasant grouse but all these frigging cats both feral and those let outside eat tbe birds. Kill the cats.

I agree, but we are so inundated with ticks, no amount of birds could ever keep up. Have you ever seen how tiny the deer tick is? I have walked in the woods in spring and come out with 12-15 of them on me. I HATE those things. They keep my dogs and me out of the woods till the weather freezes. Then we hunt the birds!!

You would be amazed how the birds would repopulate without cats. I only hunt from late October to mid March because of ticks. I spray outer clothes with permethrin every 6 weeks. So far so good.
 
If you ever get to handle a long island wild turkey (got one a few years back) the thing was infested with ticks as bad if not worse than any deer i have seen.So I would rethink the whole turkeys eat tick idea its probably the other way around ,
 
Never thought of that Joe. I can tell you that seeing what my wife is going through with Lyme disease, it puts the fear of God in you to go into the woods. t's not a pretty sight, she is sick a lot despite the use of antibiotics.
