CTS Rod Owners

Same for me. 704 in the works. Guess I am stubborn.
704 has arrived in all its alpine white glory. Beautiful finish and pack job I must say. They made a damn wood crate inside the box. Tax man did not try to collect yet, guess I am still just a pion. VERY STOUT, almost feels like a tuna jigger. I know I was warned about this. Thinking Montauk, BI, Nantucket conventional rod for heavy current. Any other recommendations?
Hope everyone stayed safe through this odd time.

Like I told you by PM, its is a stout piece. Personal experience. Great for East-End H/D togging, Plum Gut bass bucktailing and live bunker drifting. BS703 is a much more versatile blank, IMO.

BS , BSM the only ones I had breakage with..looking into a different blank with a mod/fast action from CTS...If I like it , I'll do some custom blanks more suited to the way we fish..

I know Lep. I said I was stubborn. :ROFLMAO:703 was not part of the sale they had going. I am covered with challenger bank 731m and 701l for the versatile stuff. I will build it for deepwater/heavy current tog and fluke. Worst case in 3-5 years I sell it for material cost... Still a sweet blank. Might be a while as I have some other projects ahead of it, but will try to keep you all posted.

Save it for a GOM coddling road trip in 5-6 years or when/if it ever opens again lol. Fishing the the Sound Fishers and out it should get some use. What is it rated at again?

Here it is.

just put in another order with CTS ..if anyone is looking for a blank I may not have please PM me.

I most have sold as many blanks as builds this year,,,guys are realizing there's nothing like a cts..

What are the models that you have NOT had failures with?

All these CTS threads have my mind turning thinking a BSB and fluke rod something fun.

I have a new mod/fast CTS blank in the works ..first one will be middle of the road blank a 12/20 lb line class...

this blank should replace the BSM mod/fast blank that I had problems with...we shall see..

we guys on my boat have been fishing the SBD's the past few trips need to switch things up ...what a sweet bend ..had fluke to 5,5 lbs & some nice 3+ lb seabass on them...killer blank

CTS has shipped & blanks should be in next week I have a new mod/fast EA blank coming in..

I also just got in Phenix M1 , Titans & the new RTS blanks...I fished the RTS as a spinner today with 5 keeper fluke to 5 lbs..what a nice blank its almost to nice ..the 10/20 is a perfect 4oz rod for deep water fluke ...its just so nice to fish sets up perfect on the hook up & deep bend takes all the head shakes ..

a client did some finished rod weights on cts I built

Build are BJ 701 & 701L with fuji guides , reel seat split grips butt wrap & split grip wrap one spin & one standard spin came in at 6.75 oz & standard 6,85 0z...

as you see ,rods are super light in weight & both rods will take all inshore fish from fluke , BSB , Bass ,Blues & Blacks...The challenge I fine is matching a ultra lite reel with proper drag to match the weight & power of the rod...

These blanks (rods) are unlike any graphite blank on the market today..They DON"T have that brittle feel..these graphite blanks have the proper tip action without the dead super stiff feel & still handle jig & lead ..

please visit the CTS website & see how they are built ..their graphite & resin systems are unlike any others being used ..The R&D that goes into a CTS blank is unmatched in the Ind.

So we're all on the same page, here's some "history," for your consideration - The BSM rods came about because Capt. Neil had asked CTS for a blank more moderate in action than the BS series that were selling very well at the time. CTS complied and sent over the first batch to Neil. Because there was no official model number on those blanks at the time, Neil went ahead and labeled them the "CN" series.

Have you ever built the BS in a Roberts wrap and if so
what would be the dynamic load compared to a standard
conventional build on the BSM?

Ok I own a BJ 700,702 and BSM 703 AND 704 With Spiral or Roberts wrap, acid wrap or whatever else you want to call them.

Im no engineer but thought you would use a static load test on a fishing rod.

How does one measure this dynamic load on a fishing rod?

Honestly Im not sure that I know the difference.lol

I would agree that the flex would change on any fishing rod with the guide layout and it is obviously different spiral vs conventional.

This seams to be way OVER THINKING a fishing rod to catch inhsore species in my opinion.Either you love a spiral wrap or hate it.At least that's what I have seen. with people.Im on the love side and would never go back.Friends of mine absolutely hate the spiral wrapped rods.

if you need the official model number of the BSM blanks PM me I have them ..I aslo have them in stock not a very popular blank ..very different in every way from the blanks I designed ..more like a calstar / seeker in 100% graphite

Of course in a friendly comical way. It's not a rocket ship.
Put it under load on a drag scale, same reel and obviously line.
What's more comfortable in your hands under 5 pounds of pull.
:)

Don't get me wrong, I love fishing with the latest generation, super light but powerful tackle that is available to us today. Personally I have already dropped more dollars than I care to admit while keeping up, to a certain extent, with the trends. And, there is no doubt I enjoy fishing even more with a beautifully crafted and well balanced outfit.

Having said that I also have to agree with Rob, Togilator, that perhaps we are starting to overthink certain aspects of custom rod building/ownership. Maybe its because its almost winter and there isn't much left to occupy our minds but the finest details imaginable. Then again, I often say people participate in this sport at all different levels. If the smallest differences of an outfit floats your boat then go for it.

Those of you in my age bracket probably remember the old Fisherman articles written by Matt Ahearn where he described his beloved Cod stick, a converted hickory pool cue! Can't even imagine what that one weighed or if there was any flex at all to the tip. I think I even fished with a few rods like that when I was a kid!!

BTW, I fall on the Spiral Wrap side of this discussion. Once I tried them I never went back. Personally I do believe they reduce the torque on your wrist while holding the foregrip when a good fish surges from side to side.
