First trip of the year.

This report is for yesterday.

After working on the boat since April on and off with both my sons, the boat was ready last week but never got the chance to use it.

My younger son called me up this past Thursday and asked if we could go out this saturday, I said sure, he then proceeds to tell me that he wants to bring his wife and her sister Lin who just came in from Australia, Lin just happens to be a Dr and wanted to go fishing, I said sure, but make sure you tell the women that this is no luxury boat. lol

Dr Lin came in on the train to Milford @ 9am so my daughter in law picked her up, in the mean time we gain one more passenger my grandson Zac, so we load the boat up and head to the gas station to put gas in it, 125$ got us 26.2 gallons of gas, facepalm. After the shock wore off we headed to the ramp and put the boat in, I bought a new prop with a lower pitch and its aluminium.

Everyone showed up and off we went, we decided to head over to can 7 Port Jeff area, the motor ran great but sounded a lot different with the aluminum prop, don't know why.

We arrived around 11am and 10 minutes later I had my first fluke in the boat, about 16", then another same size and another, everyone was into fluke but no keepers yet.

We managed 25 fluke in about an hour then it died off, we had very little drift so I moved around alot.

Tide changed and we had a little better drift but no fluke, around 2 pm the wind changed and started blowing out of the south, we had a really good drift going and had to step up to heavier jigs.

A few more fluke were caught, my daughter in law caught an 18" fluke just 1/2 in shy of a keeper, we stayed till 4:30 pm and then headed in, Dr. Lin was telling me about the fishing in Australia.

I guess they have their problems and corruption too.

The ride back was uneventful, Dr LIn was having a hard time staying warm and awake because of the time difference.

So, it was a great day, I got to fish with my son whos birthday was Saturday , my grandson, daughter in-law and her sister.

Till next time,
Stay safe and Healthy.
Jay

Sounds fantastic...nice day Jay
Thanks Drew, there was plenty of sand eels and bunker out there too with small blues and bass chasing them.
Probably going to try one more time and then trailer up to Rhode Island for fluke, seems their in and in good numbers.
How's the engines running on the boat? Ever since I did all the maintenance work 3 yrs ago and this year I cleaned the engine with degreaser it's been running like a champ, the guy before me never took care of the engine.
This year I had to pull the gas cover to replace the engine hose because I relocated my 10 micron gas filter to the enclosure that houses my oil tank, nothing exposed anymore. I put seadek on the floor when recalked the tank lid.
Was going to buy a new boat this year but gas prices and the fact that i'm getting older I decided to buy a 2022 Dodge Challenger AWD. I really like the car, I use to have fast cars when I was younger, I like the classic looks of the Challenger.
I think I have a pic.

Hello Jay...nice to hear from you!
Thinks are OK on this side of the Sound. The redone port side motor has been worry free. SB has been running well also, but yesterday gave me a bit of a mechanical issue. The throttle lever that controls the butterflies seems to have bent, or the plastic collar is worn out and there is binding, so I just ordered a new collar from SIM and hope to get it back in order. She runs well, but at the moment I cant advance the throttle...it's always something. Other than that, I have upgraded with a Rhodan spot lock trolling motor, so now there is no excuse, even though my fishing season hasn't been great so far.
Like you, I'm hoping to trailer out east and get on that great fishery at some point..probably in the fall.
I had no idea that Dodge equipped the Challenger with AWD....just another option to tow the boat...LOL!!!! Nice looking ride..hope she treats you well.
Take care!

Glad you had a great day with lots of action. My son would have kept his Challenger but they didn't come with AWD a few years back and it was a horror show in snow. Yes, the Challenger IMHO is one of the best looking cars out there.
