Flounder

Hunter704

Well-Known Angler
So my hunting crew left yesterday for Massachusetts. Today they went out at a 11 o’clock till 3 and put a boat limit of winter flounder on the boat. Also 2 keeper Bass on flounder rigs. Definitely brings back old memories. And to drop salt in the wound I was supposed to be. Anyway I’m glad they went and did well. Hopefully I get a few pieces tomorrow when they get back. Was a five man crew.

The early 1980's it was flat fishing heaven in Long Island Bays. You could easily catch 30 migrating flounder in Reynolds Channel right across from the Town Of Hempstead Boat ramp in Point Lookout - right over next to the marsh you anchored and flounder action for hours. Then I'd let a squid strip drift back into the current and I caught Fluke the same trip. Unbelievable !!!
I always wanted to make a trip up to Quincy and now I'd like to go to catch my first flounder in 32-33 years.
What happened to the Raritan Bay/ Moriches Flounder Fishing ?

Pangaroo // Hunter i remember this is like 50 years ago I always fished with my friends father he had a large criss craft we would flounder fish off princess bay ( on raritan bay) and we did great back then,,, we would drop anchor and dragged it around in a circle first to get the bottom turned up,,,, than Set the anchor off (buoy4) I made the mojoe chum,,,,, white rice dyed red// corn//clam// fish flavor cat food in a big 5gal bucket and we chummed with that,,,, we caught alot,,, (doubles too) days we got 75 and days we counted up to 125 between both of us in a few hours maybe half of day ,,,, no (BS) ,,,and we threw back all the smaller flounders,,,, boy those were the days ,,,,, if we only knew not to keep that many flounders back then .,,,,,we ate for weeks:rolleyes:,,,, the memory's :),,,,,,,,, ps back then you didn't have to chum and catch flounder,,,,,,,,,,,,,friends stay well ,,,,,,,,,,,,><)))):>

This was a boat limit in three hours. Back in the day it was flounder everywhere. Yes we all probably kept to many. But I believe the use of fertilizer, seals. Birds of prey and many other things contribute to the lack of flounder. Nothing but memories now.
