How do you store your gulp?

Capt mike
Do you keep a secondary container of “soup” going for the between drift soaking?? I’m thinking dunking the whole rig into your main container of fresh gulps would for lack of a better word, “contaminate” them?

Pequa, I haven't looked at the Snapware website in a while but they do have a pretty large assortment of sizes and shapes. Hopefully you can find a shape that fits your needs. It seems logical to me if you are concerned about tip overs in a Kayak keep the level of liquid and baits down to around half the overall volume.

Chinacat, as I mentioned I usually do dunk my entire rig in the container in between drifts but I use the same container for both purposes. I'm not sure if "contamination" is a problem. All I can say is, like Lep, I have used the same containers now for several years and have not had any failures or notice any difference as I mix and match baits from one season to the next. One thing I do to make things a little easier is I have several jars and separate the large worms from the smaller grubs, from the jerk shads. That makes it easier and faster to "fish out" the bait of choice.

Thank you for contributing Mike! My wife has sorta thrown in the towel regarding my fishing gear collection spreading to other parts of the house. We've actually reached an uneasy truce on this matter - I get the garage and the kitchen table for occasional photos - and the rest of the house, including the dining room table is normally hers. But she never really knows where a stray reel (or GULP! container) may pop up, from time to time. Gotta keep her on her toes . . .

Overall this arrangement seems to work fairly well. Other than the night before "fishing days," when I regularly violate the terms of our truce by leaning my chosen outfits against the living room couch for easy collection in the dark of the following morning. Yeah, she just loves that maneuver. Good thing I'm so darn irresistible.

And here's Casey, my "attack Collie," standing guard against any possible theft of my prized setups. So far his ferocious deterrence has been 100% successful!

[It was found in testing for shelf life of the lures that successive freeze/thaw cycles create lures that continue to get harder and stiffer. This hardness-stiffness eventually draws the molecules so tight that syneresis of liquids occurs and the fish lure becomes unacceptable; that is, increased hydrogen bonding initiates severe syneresis (weeping), which changes the physical properties of the lures unacceptably.] "

am I misinterpreting or does this mean after some successive freezes they become useless as bait ?
The hardest ones I have are like getting a hook out of a Uncle Josh Pork Grind. I can’t just pull them off either. Tails still get yanked off though.

Bill Wetzel showed the easy way to pull rind off a hook with pliers. so simple you would kick yourself after doing it once. as for losing the tails, that's the part of Gulp I hate, the only part. If freezing doesn't have an effect on their "betailing" then I will continue to do what I have been doing, bringing most of it into the basement although some is still in my attached garage. I have started to look at the Snapware stuff but think it would work for me on the occasional boat trips I make. For the kayak, will stick with the Plano screw off.

I have not seen Bill Wetzel's method for removing Porkrind or the newer synthetic stuff, but in most cases I don't need pliers at all.

If you take the trailer and turn it around so the thin end is facing towards the shank of the hook you can slip it off by working the hole towards the barb of the hook first.

I do a ton of Bass fishing with bucktails every season and rarely need pliers by using this approach.

yup, that is how he showed us, and the few times I used rind the last few years I left my pliers in my holster as well.

Ok this may be a silly question but here it is. Would you mix different sizes of the same style (3inch 4inch and 5inch grubs) or would you mix all 3 inch with 3 inch and 4 inch with etc...?

I guess what I'm asking is the juice different "flavors" for different styles? do the grubs have the same scent as the shrimp for example.

I have never noticed a different scent. My fingers always stink the same. On the kayak I have all sizes, colors and styles completely mixed in a single container and don't notice any difference.

You can see my GULP! mixture in my pix. Some of mine is 5 seasons old - no problems of any type. They all still catch just fine.

I also agree with pequa and Lep. I never noticed any difference in the effectiveness of the Gulp baits based upon the age of the product or a mixing of different styles. Personally, I separate out my large 5" and 6" worms and jerk shads from the smaller grubs just as a matter of convenience.

I have been unable to find these specific snapware containers anywhere and all online retailers have listed sold out since around the last few posting of this thread in Dec 19/ Jan 20. If anyone has a lead please let me know.

Disregard, shortly after posting this I conducted one final search after fully believing they went out of production Low and behold 1 place had a few. Excited to ditch the multiple layers of ziplock bags I have become accustomed to!

E-Pray is your friend:

Its ALWAYS Christmas on the IT&T board:

Amazon has a nice, big square-ish one:

Back to the round ones:

These are not Snapware, but look interesting (and cheap) enough to try:

You're welcome! 8-)

Thank you for the suggestions Gents, very helpful.

I had the Christmas ones in my watch list for some time , but couldn’t decide between the tree or snowman, never pulled the trigger in hopes of finding some non holiday branded. Then restless at about 1:30 am last night/ this morn I awoke and re-read this entire thread. Decided to google again and Amazon had the normal ones . Perfect timing I guess.

Every screw on lid I have tried thus fare has Always leaked. Looking forward to the juice smell only being on what I dunk in the tank from now on.
