Need to fly a safety flag

Totally agree. I can count on one hand since 2003 when I didn't fly one. (usually when just catching snappers for the barbecue along the docks.)
I had a seat with tiny and otherwise useless rod holders wherein I put the flag on my Phoenix 140. ( You can just see the orange taped safety flag pole behind me on the avatar.) The Skimmer has no such seat and I have never used a crate, just a killie bucket behind the seat if livelining snappers. If I put the flag on a mount behind the seat it will impair my efforts to reach back and grab the bucket as I have a landing net in the starboard flush rod holder and a second rod in the port rod holder behind the seat. With limited behind the seat space on the Skimmer, I think I need to put the safety flag at the stern based on my style of fishing and launching. (I kayak fish alone, no need for a cart, and along with the aforementioned items just take a small canvas tackle bag.) A dozen years ago I recall snagging the safety flag pole at the stern while trolling, but that was with a one or two foot long pole, which probably accomplished little in terms of added awareness to others. After that I put the flagpole in the seat.

Unless I am looking at a totally different kayak the skimmer 128 has no flush mount rod holders so where are the items you listed before like your net and extra rod going to gr are you using it mostly for the joy of paddling which I don't blame you at all it looks like a dream to paddle and you will fish sometimes with it.Either way a flag is still needed but like you state you options are a little limited.The stern by the handle seems a logical place.

Also putting a Scotty on that slope in front of the cupholder, the recessed compact mount Scotty at the stern for the flag and an anchor trolley to starboard. Bought some extra "c" fittings to clip fish stringers too. (Learned the hard way not to put the whole catch on one side!)
After making a couple of minor repairs on my old Phoenix, should be no problem. Got Marine Goop sealant, some kayak rivets, etc. Except for going clamming I don't think I ever paddled the Phoenix without fishing. Haven't tried fishing off our Perception Tribe 13.5 though, don't think the better half will like getting hit with a fish !

wow you really can outfit that kayak very nicely.I did not realize the sides of the kayak were so wide so you can install tracs on them.Obviously you have many more options than I thought everything you have described sounds great good luck!.By the way the tribe 13.5 fishes very well and it also provided some comic relief for me listening to my son and his fiance going at it sometimes when one wanted to go in one direction and the other in the opposite direction and when both had fish on at the same time who got to bring it in first while the other manned the net ah good times

Funny ! The Tribe is stable but with THAT beam... i have gotten limits of clams with it with a buddy but no fish yet with the wife. Some mixed news today. Not frozen shoulder but tendinitis and probable slight rotator cuff tear. Cortisone shot and no activity until next week then p.t. so once again the Skimmer sits ownerless at The Dinghy Shop.

Funny ! The Tribe is stable but with THAT beam... i have gotten limits of clams with it with a buddy but no fish yet with the wife. Some mixed news today. Not frozen shoulder but tendinitis and probable slight rotator cuff tear. Cortisone shot and no activity until next week then p.t. so once again the Skimmer sits ownerless at The Dinghy Shop.

I have fished it with my son also both of us 220 plus with no problems kinda of fun being able to fish with him in the same craft and sharing the day with him it's the best my fishing experience can possibly be.By the way I have a torn rotator cuff for the last 40 years and 6 bulging disks in my neck and for the last 2 months it has gotten worse so I am thankful that I have a peddle hobie because I am not sure I would be able to paddle that much this year although I do love to paddle

I am and have been able to pool swim and paddle all along. Lifting weights has been “out” for two years. Have been gradually falling apart since I retired from the army reserves 18 years ago

My shoulder first came out when I was 16 years old I am now 58 so after 42 years I have learned what I can and what I can't do and how to keep my arm from coming out of the socket which could be a big problem on the water .

Not strictly true as I understand it, but I certainly don’t want my tombstone to say I died testing my understanding ?

I often fish from both yak and boat along channel edges, and often paddle to those very edges when powerboats approach. Not the correct forum for this, but I could swear that when I took the 12 night USCGA course many moons ago, there was something about not anchoring in a navigable channel. IIRC, many in attendance sucked in their breath. Not sure if its in my Chapman's or not. Gotta look.

Ahhh you got the backing plate. I always got stainless wholesale from D Lily in Port Jeff. Asked for lock nuts, like $5 a piece. So always went with lock washers until Scotty came out with that.
