The season is now mercifully over so it's time to speculate on what direction this team goes in. Even though they won the President cup last year, the Rangers seems as far away as ever from competing with the top teams in the NHL.

Whatever direction the team goes in, it better include a new defensive mindset and coach! Allowing opposing teams the blueline on every entry, hoping to block a shot and then trying to spring the offense on an odd man break does not work. It usually leads to another shot against Igor.
Coach Phil Housley definitely has to go.

Too many times the past two years they let guys walk right to the front without paying the price.
Too much stick checking and not enough body checking.

I’m not saying you need to cross check a guy but taking someone down once in While if they try to go to the front sends a clear message to the other team.

We need some real D men.
Get rid of K. miller , Vak, Soucy all these third pairing or 7th d men.

Fox doesn’t play Defense at all but does run the point well, need a tough stay at home to partner with him. Lindgren was that but he was beaten down too much over the years.

Sullivan would be a decent choice for coach.

Mika Zibanejad was at a loss for words after he and the Rangers made history by becoming the first team in NHL history to get shut out in each of its first three home games of the season.

Yes, we are all waiting for their first goal at home, but I am happy with what I see.

Their Defense looks 100% improved over the last few seasons. No more allowing teams in, allowing the shot and then hoping to get the puck. They look like they have a clue now, and are stopping the shot and pass, and are forcing the play....1 goal against in each of the last 3 games shows that its working well for them. Very little chasing the puck in our zone, and limited chances by the opposition.

Of course I would like to see them win these games with some goals, but I don't think its for lack of offense. They are playing better and are getting grade A chances every period. Sure I can nit pick a certain play where maybe they should've passed, or shot instead, but regardless, we are getting good looks, good shots and good chances. The goals will come.
