Plenty of life....not many bass

Fished solo yesterday, light ENE breeze and a slight 1-2' chop at the beginning of the outgoing.
Took the east side out of the inlet, 3 fleets of boats out in front of Jones. Some chatter about a few bass caught trolling, not too many.
Joined the fleet in 40-45' of water and looked around a bit. Read a few and tried jigging for about an hour.....Dog after dog.
Strolled to the east a bit and found a pod just south of the outer bar in 20-25' of water.....figured I'd snag a few to throw in with the crabs to keep them fat and happy.
Second snagged bunker just as I'm ready to pull it out of the water a nice bass follows it up and inhales it....bunker snag and all......so much for even having the chance to switch it over to a circle hook.
Short fight and I released a nice healthy 44" fish. That was the total excitement for the day...it was 11am. Trolled around and stopped and jigged under the diving gannets for more doggies.
Wrapped it up at 3pm and headed home.
Turned out to be a beautiful day on the water. Boat ran great, made it back safely.....can't ask for more than that !

Excellent report, I fear I may have missed the run. But I’m going to give it a shot Sunday morning ?

I messed up. I read them good just past the East jetty after the bar.....didn't have myself together and didn't turn around....in hind-sight....that would have been my best shot from what I saw all day.
