Shotguns

Picked up a Mossberg 500 Persuader .410 pistol grip specifically for home defense that the wife can use incase of emergency. Smaller and shorter and easier to use, but it still has the visual impact and if chambering a round doesn't scare the intruder off, well the personal home defense ammo will get the job done.

Anyone thinking that a pistol gripped 12 or even 20 gauge shotty is the thing for HD, better take it to a range, preferably an outdoor one, and shoot a few rounds. You may find yourself putting an ace bandage on your wrist afterward. Personally, the best HD firearm for HD is probably a handgun, with a caliber starting with a 4, but the license application takes time and in some cases, moolah. Not easy for a perp to grab the barrel of your handgun. As for spray and pray with a shotgun, at hallway to kitchen distances, you still have to aim, as even with an improved cylinder choke the spread will not be much wider than a bathroom wastebasket opening unless you use bird shot. Bird shot might only make a perp mad if you hit him in the chest while he's wearing a leather jacket, but the aforementioned buck shot will go through two sheets of sheetrock like they weren't there. And finally, my advice to any first time shooter is, for the defense of family, one must not hesitate but shoot to kill and do so forthwith. If you do not believe that you or a family member can do this, get a big dog.
One final note: the sound of racking a round for your shotgun or a semi auto pistol can alert an intruder who also might be armed. Revolvers have no safeties so there is no wondering if its ready to go. Except when I am deer hunting, I do not use a safety at all, especially not on my 9mm or 1911. My safety is in using my brain and keeping that little finger out of the trigger guard.

Thanks for the info and advice Pequa!

Looking around on some of the local sites here and so many of them have very low inventory. One site says 4-6 months of backlog.

Way to many people who have no knowlage of guns are buying up shotguns for home defense......thats a scary thing

OH one other thing I dont now if any of you have fired a shotgun in a house or an enclosed space it will blow up your ear drums and leave you seriously disoriented for a bit trust me and thats not a good thing with an intruder or 2 in your house

That would be me! Sorry but I believe I need to do something. And it seems many others all of a sudden feel the same way recently. 2A is our right and I would think there is no bad time to exercise that. But I feel i may be very late.

I fired rifles as a teenager with my dad but that was a while ago and some handguns at the range in my 20's.

I agree on the 2A right and fully support it but its not something you jump into because you can...... look at all the people who get a car or a boat because then can and have no clue on how to use them

Training would help, and I really don't want to keep harping on it, but if one is not hunting Bambi's grandfather but protecting the family, one must be absolutely sure that one would not hesitate but would permanently end the threat. and Cany, I think the majority of these assholes who bought their first boat must be boating out of Matzohpizza this summer...

For sure and agreed...I will definitely need and want to do proper training on firearm usage and safety.

things have calmed down somewhat nationally and internationally. I would wait. Prices will drop as inventory comes back. some of these shops that will tell you they can get that 870 are actually competing with several other shops for that very same shotgun. In the meantime, take a hunter safety course if you haven't and get with a buddy who shoots and often for a mentor.

Honestly either way this election goes I’d prefer to have one now. Kamala was a huge supporter of Beto’s Gun Confiscation bill and if Trump wins be prepared for more riots.

Guys - I found a brand new
Winchester Model SXP DEFENDER Tactical Riot 12GA Shotgun 18" 5RD SUPER X 12

Its an older model but new from a dealer out of state.
Is this an OK shotgun? Will a local dealer with an FFL accept it for me after I pay the out of state seller?
Here is a video of it.

Having it shipped to the FFL shop locally. I’m relieved. Might not be the best but will get the job done if needed.

I could not agree more. Way too many people see a shotgun being fired with 1 hand in the movies and think its the way to do it. Watch you tube "gun fails." I also agree with the pistol, way too easy for an intruder to grab the barrel so it is not pointing at them especially if you are stalking the intruder instead of getting your family safe in a corner behind you with the gun. No need to stalk, just wait as long as everyone is accounted for (from experience). Also it's not easy to take a life, be it animal or human. Better be prepared to take that life if you point a gun at someone.
