Anyone thinking that a pistol gripped 12 or even 20 gauge shotty is the thing for HD, better take it to a range, preferably an outdoor one, and shoot a few rounds.
I could not agree more. Way too many people see a shotgun being fired with 1 hand in the movies and think its the way to do it. Watch you tube "gun fails."
LOL, reminds me of the opening day of Scoter Season circa 1978. My buddy and I were out in the Sound in my boat, no camo, just a 16' Glasspar. We had just laid out 50 Clorox bottles painted black, with 2 white patches, and a set of nested silhouettes. It was a rainy, crappy day with a NE 15 kt wind, but it WAS opening day.
I decided that it was time to use the "stern head" and get rid of that morning cup of coffee. So there I was standing by the transom, in full, yellow Helly's taking a leak. I looked up to see 50 birds coming right into the stool, abandoned the "business at hand", grabbed the 870 and took a single shot from the hip!! Damn thing almost tore my arms off!! It was an hysterical start to a memorable day. And no, I predictably didn't hit a thing!!
Believe it or not that was NOT the funniest or most memorable event that day. There were 3 other things that still have me doubled over in laughter when I think about them, including SUPER SCOTER. A single bird came in and my buddy took a perfect shot, clobbered the bird that folded up, and rolled over on this back before dropping into the water like a stone. That was one dead bird, but wait!!! Damn thing hit the water and it was like he had been sleeping because he suddenly shook his head to wake up, and then proceeded to fly away. The two of us were sitting there shaking our heads in amazement. Up to that point, and every time after, any time a duck folds and rolls it was DOA, but not SUPER SCOTER!!
