A morbidly obese woman from Jackson in Missouri was arrested Yesterday for dressing up as a sheriff deputy and extorting over 20 meals per day from restaurants for her protection.
According to Jackson County Sheriff’s office, 31-year old Shanice Johnson spent the last four years posing as a deputy and spending her entire days “patrolling” restaurants across the city.
Her uniform was complete with a badge, gold pins, a radio, body camera, baton and even a gun on her belt.
Ms. Johnson told her victims that she was part of the sheriff’s office “restaurant brigade”, designed to guarantee the safety of food businesses across the city.
She would meet restaurant owners and managers to attempt to extort free food in exchange for “more frequent patrols”.
According to Jackson County Sheriff’s office spokesman, Michael Franklin, her stratagem allegedly allowed her to extort up to 30 meals or food servings per day, mostly from her favorite fast-food chains like KFC and Dunkin’ Donuts.
Jackson County Sheriff’s office spokesman, Michael Franklin, says Ms. Johnson not only extorted innocent citizens and businesses but degraded the public image of the Sheriff’s office and needs to be punished accordingly.
Shanice Johnson faces a total of 179 criminal charges including extortion, impersonating a police officer, forgery, embezzlement, and fraud.
If found guilty on all charges, she faces a total of 465 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1,760,000.
Her trial is set to begin in January at the 16th Circuit Court of Jackson County.
