so I get a notice from DMV that the registration on one of my vehicles expires in January & to go online to renew it...

Also says:
Note - By sending this postcard as your registration renewal reminder DMV is reducing costs & sving paper.

So one would expect that those saving will be passed on to their customers right? I mean after all, they work for us right?
