The never ending chat thread, chat about anything That your up too

getting roof and gutter quotes.....50 grand for both keeps coming back
that seems awefully high - just how big a structure are you looking to re-roof?

Had mine done about 4 years ago.
  • 2 layers of asbestos shingles
  • 1 layer of a cider shake roof
  • replace the sub roofing (which seemed to be a combination of late 1800's/early 1900's plywood type stuff) with new plywood
  • removed two chimneys from the roofline up (they weren't connected to anything but were leaking when it rained)
  • install an attic fan for temperature & humidity control (I bought the fan - they put it in)
  • and as long as the attic was open to the sky - use excess plywood to put down a floor in the attic

$8500

My Wife and I giving BIG thanks to Chevy for the recommendation and intro to Lee the Carpenter, Great guy and great skills.

He came saw and conquered...he offered to either order and install a brand new set of basement stairs that would need to be manufactured and take a few weeks for manufacturer to make them and then they were 17 weeks out for install. Lee said he would install right away when they were done. He also offered the repair for half of what the new cost would be.

Lee was confident that he could fix them in a day or two and make them strong using some new materials and some of what was there. We do not use them much at all but needed them to be safe since they had became dangerous. He made these repairs and made our basement staircase stronger than it ever was. I will stain them this weekend and we are very happy, great job Lee and thank you Chevy.

Before & After.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Very hard to find folks who can do the work and take pride in how they leave your home!
